Do chicken and cow need fence?
With animals coming inside at night/rain, seems I can just find them at night inside the coop/barn easily.

I think it's mostly aesthetic.

I don't know that they eat your crops but that would be a reason to keep them up somewhere.

Fences are purely cosmetic, animals do not eat crops, and they will go back inside themselves. Honestly, this actually makes the durability thing completely useless.

The problem with letting them run loose is they get in the way and it can look messy.

Hardwood fences last 260-300 days and with how little use you have for it and with the daily supply in the hidden forest it's the best option easily or at least stone ones are until you can build the hardwood ones.

It can also be hard to run around and pet them every day if they're all over the place. the fence keeps them relatively close together so you can do 'daily maintenance' easier.

Also, considering pigs will span truffle where they walk, having they walk in a more restricted area makes it easier to find it.

i only close the barn at night so that in the mornig i can go in pet them and milk all of them before they go all over the farm.
