I'd be planting blueberries. You'd need a lot of hives to sustain just beekeeping.

I go hunt dust sprites (the bouncy round enemies) for all my coal needs. If you plan of beekeeping, Fairy Rose is the best flower you could plant. And remember that bees won't produce at all during winter, so you'll need to do something else when winter comes.

I never found bees all that profitable, wine is where it's at

How much does one wine sell for
Zyfie Mar 8, 2016 @ 9:39am
Depends on the used fruit.

nvm wine would give less gold wine sells for slightly more but takes twice as long to produce, so honey in the same time nets almost twice as much gold than wine

Different seasons have different flowers. Fairy Rose is Fall and makes the highest priced honey.

And you don't need that many hives for it to be nicely lucrative if doing flower-flavored, which does take a bit of time to get going, since the flowers have to grow first - but if you're just doing plain Wild Honey, since the sell price was dropped in a game patch, that on its own isn't too exciting.

By lucrative I don't mean spamming 200 beehives, either. I use 20ish and still grow other crops to pickle/jelly during the winter along with a lot of foraging/mining. That's my plan, anyway. I'll see how it turns out.

Keeping bees is very nice early you wont have much energy and time for other things than your farm and maybe chopping wood or mining a bit.

But once the flowers bloom you dont have to water them & can just tend to your crops, right now i have 60 hives and i do farm other things but i may make 60 more and stop there.

I also have animals though im kinda worried about the cows eating all their grass atm and i have a horse, now im probably going to upgrade the coop and barn though its nice to not have to do anything and have my bees net me like 12k every 3 days durring spring.

And I am using Delux Speed-Gro to get the most flower honey, cant wait till fall and use the fairy rose again.

you can stockpile fruit to keg throughout the year.
you can only make fairy honey for less than 1 season because it takes time to grow as well.

Assuming you have enough resoruces for all the kegs, you can devote your entire farm to growing fruit during its season, then convert the entire farm to kegs during off seasons.

with the artisan perk, wine goes for 4.5x the fruit price (3x base, +50% from artisan)
if you're shipping cranberries or blueberries instead consider preservation vats.
those do 75+3x fruit value with artisan, but they only take 3 days, and you harvest multiple berries per plant anyway.

for planning purposes,
ancient berries in the greenhouse will fill kegs at practically 1:1 ratio.

the other thing to consider though, if you're not that far into the game, is kegs take a long time. while they're brewing, that money could have been spent on additional crops for a larger harvest later.

They're good late game when you pretty much have your farm the way you want it, but early on when you're trying to grow they're only good if you dont have the energy, time, or sprinkers to manage more crops.

Doing a plant free run might be a cool idea, like no seeds ever except 1 of each plant that you need for the community center, but just that one (or in the case of the quality bundle a few more until you get 5 golds), all the money will need to come from animals, bees, fishing and mining.
I'll try it later.

hmm well i just need to solve my winter "problem" of not having too much to sell. last winter i just grew winter seeds and sold that it made ok amounts not nothing really that good. might go with jelly and picked vegis.

also how much fruit would you need to fill up a keg? idk the idea of holding off my fruit for Less gold than i would earn with the hives isnt too inticing, the only downside to hives is the base 100g honey. I have to wait for flowers for a few days usually 1/3 of the season give or take depending on the flower so i could see myself losing money durring that growing period, idk but the main reason i did this was because I like bees and wanted to do a beekeeper run.

I've been thinking about making a lot more hives eventually, as well. Mostly because I'd rather spend more time doing non-farm-tending things, and as time goes on, I feel like farm-tending (even with no animals and some sprinklers) starts to take up too much time.

Edit: although achievements would require me to do certain things for a bit, at least.

optimally 14 fruit per year per keg. wine takes 8 days.
:)

plus about 3 per keg if you use additional kegs on your farm during winter.
7 if you continue kegs during spring as well.

alternatively, 37 fruit per year per preservation vat.

I'll try it later.

maple syrup continues during the winter too =D
and tapper(foraging lv 10) stacks with artisan.
gets you about 375 per syrup.
