Git gud.
Find a better weapon (that will one-shot them) and take the time to kill them as they fly in.
Oh yeah, and rememeber eating pauses the game, so don't be afraid to eat while fighting. Once you gear up and get the star fruit the last levels are a complete joke.
You do realize they have a ton of health and its hard to not get hit when they are on all sides of you
Once you get down deep enough you don't get those bugs anymore and it becomes a bit easier.
Also, get the energy tonic from the doctor. For 1000g it will refill health and energy. That saved my life several times.
Murder a certain number of those slow flying bugs (you can check how much in the adventurers guild board) and you will be awarded a nice sword. It helps a lot. Otherwise, those flying things you mention are restricted to a small area. You don't NEED to murder them all, so you could just try rushing those levels. Other thing, you might have noticed that those white magots transform into those flies, so make sure to murder them before they start the transformation.
Most of them just spawn out of nowhere. I do manage to kill the slugs. Replace health and energy? I did see it but? Replace as in refill?
Jep, a really important thing.
Fortunately I found a wooden club as a drop from a chest early on (that made 9-16 damage) ... helped me a lot during the first levels (till I got a forest sword and an insect head)
Yeah, I meant refill.
My game is probably the same as yours, meaning yes, I killed them to get past them, and if you think they have a ton of health, your weapon is too weak.
Build, buy, or fish up a better one.
#1 thing is know why you went in there and don't get distracted.
If you are going down to farm resouces, don't be afraid to run back to the ladder. You can always come back within 4 floors of where you left.
If you're going down to open up more levels - Still don't be afraid to run especially if you are only down a floor or two from the elevator.... or you're running out of time in the day and probably won't make it to the next elevator level before you have to leave anyways. Proceed cautiously. Focus on just destroying rocks to try and open up that next ladder as fast as possible. Or bring stairs with you.
If the screen goes "foggy" you are about to be swarmed by flying insects. If you don't think you can kill them as quickly as they come at you - run for the ladder.
Try to split mobs up so you only get one or two at a time. And try to get them up near a wall (the non-flying ones, obviously) and spam the attack button. They can't do anything to you if they're constantly being hit.
For flying mobs I usually stand still and wait for them to come to me and try to time the attack just as they get in range.
I got to floor 80 on seaweed/berries and that sword you get from the chest on level 20. I never used the slingshot either, I suck with it. You really don't have to be that good if you're cautious.
The reason for focusing on skipping past rooms quickly: you will find a treasure chest with a powerful new equip in it every 10 floors or so that greatly increase your ATK and/or DEF and will also unlock new eqip to purchase at the adventurer's guild.
Then, once you have new equips, you can go back through those sections you rushed past to collect resources and slay creatures.
Doesn't hurt to take some energy/health recovery items with you either, just in case.
