RANT: Grandpa Honors?! The f..? (potential spoilers)
OK, so the spirit of my beloved grand pa just showed up one night and basically told me I suck.

I have all my skills maxed. Friends with most people in town. Married with fully upgraded house. Reached level 120 of mine, unlocked sewers, went to floor 25 of the skull cave, have all my tools upgraded (except hoe which I kept at steel). I have more than half of the community center restored, and I have even caught most of the legendary fish.

Yet my grandpa just showed up and gave me a 3/13 score, shamed me and said he regretted leaving the farm to me in his will.

The old fart spent all that energy to disobey the laws of physics to speak to me beyond the grave just to take a huge dump on all my achievements and complain that I havent completed his "honors" that I was never privy to knowing anything about.

If he wanted to give me a quest, he should have given me the details in his will! He cant just show up after two years and expect me to telepathically have known what he wanted me to accomplish with his groty-♥♥♥ shack he spent like, what, 70 years on yet accomplishing nothing compared to me? How was I supposed to know what he wanted of me? How was I supposed to know he was even judging me?

I came from a office job, no experience in farming what so ever, yet after a mere two years, I have developed his shed into a mansion, made more than a million gold from crops and animals, became an expert miner, a legendary fisherman, a slime-killing, skeleton bashing hero worthy of a final fantasy game AND a respectable member of the community that has helped restore most of the towns broken infrastructure... Yet he shows and take a huge dump on all that because I wasn't also a psychic medium capable of reading his hidden wishes from beyond the veil?!

HE DIDN'T EVEN EXPLAIN WHAT I HAD DONE WRONG!!

Grandpa is a ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

EDIT: Well, it seems gramps has had a change of heart!

I personally would have preferred if they somehow made it obvious what our goals were, or maybe gave us a halfway check. Like "I am worried/glad blah blah about your progress, but you still need to blah blah". Maybe even change the time limit to the end of year 3 instead of the start of it :)

I was pretty disappointed by the ending scene, too. I got only 5 Great Honors, although I hadn't finished only 2 rooms of the Community Center (7 missing items in total), maxed out my house, had 2 fully upgraded barns and coops, lots of money and friends, every single animal, got to the bottom of the mine... Grandpa said I had "tried my best, and he couldn't ask for more".

This is a quote from another thread, I don't know if it's true, though.

Have 10 heart friendship with 10 people

(The Millionaire achievement is worth 5 great honors. The less money you earn, the fewer great honors you get)

did you ever befriend a lot of people? grandpa said that the most important thing in life is connections to other people and nature.

I was just flopping around befriending people and grandpa seemed to be OK with me :P

I totally agree. I did some rather stupid mistakes in the beginning (had never played Harvest Moon before and didn't read any guides), and I decided just to stick with my save, because I figured the game would forgive a calm, low-paced playing style... but when I saw these requirements for the "good ending"... I wonder if even the developer himself could achieve all that in 2 years... well, now I'm comforting myself with the thought that it's just a tiny scene that doesn't even matter in the end.

If there at least was the possibility to have grandpa "rerate" your farm every year or something...

That's weird. Is that a million in hand at one time, or a million earned? Because I have earned a million+

"Earn 25 skill points"

wut?....
dubesor Mar 6, 2016 @ 8:05am
I got 8/13, 3 candles after my first playthrough. here is the point system:

Money Earned:

100k gold = 1 point

200k gold = 2 points

300k gold = 3 points

500k gold =- 4 points

1 million + = 5 points

Achievements and Progression:

at least 5 achievements = 1 point

at least 26 = 2 points

All 34 = 3 points

Found all the Stardrops = 1 point

Earned 25 or more total skill levels = 1 point
Social:

Preserved the Community Center = 1 point (not 100% sure whether this means restored or just not torn down)

Married with a fully upgraded house = 1 point

Have a certain level of friendship with at least 10 people (not clear without further digging what the number in the code translates to in hearts, I'm guessing between 2 and 5) = 1 point.

For calculating the candles, less than 4 points is 1 candle, 4-7 is 2, 8-11 is 3, 12 or more is 4.

I really wish we knew about this, they could've put like grandpa entering your dreams at the end of year 1 to tell you how you are doing
Or have the fortune teller lady tell you that grandpa is judging you
Or have the wizard commune with grandpa when you just met the wizard

Or any other way for that matter,i mean its just like dropping an info bomb on us as if its like...HEY,YOU SUCK,GO REDO EVERYTHING FROM SCRATCH,(eventhough we told you nothing about judging you whatsoever)

If this is one of their ways to encourage replaying, this is not one of them
Deggo Mar 6, 2016 @ 8:46am
Probably one of the weaker parts of the game. Seems like a last minute addition, which isn't that great.
Khalani Mar 6, 2016 @ 8:56am
So what does the score anyway except say that you have done well or suck at farming?
PhoenixHunter89 Mar 6, 2016 @ 9:01am
Does he judge you again in year 6? Or is that it one chance?
KatherineOfSky Mar 6, 2016 @ 9:04am
The Full Shipment one is BS too... I STILL haven't found a single Rainbow Shell, either at the beach or at the caravan... and I am year 3 Summer now... Grrrr.... (I did get 8 points from Grandpa, though, and he was happy with me).
HoshiGiniro Mar 6, 2016 @ 9:05am
its not the end game people calm down he comes back im sure
sashimi taco Mar 6, 2016 @ 9:12am
Guys calm down. The dev himself said this has nothing important to do with the story. It's just a side plot thing that is supposed to make you focus on the goals if you want to.
