Farm animals, keep or sell?
Once your farm animals hit max hearts, should I keep them or sell them and buy new ones?
For example, I have 4 chickens. If I sell them, I'll get 1040g each. New chickens are only 500g. Is it worth the loss in produce while raising new chicks?

Also, do animals die/stop producing?

They stop / produce less when they are unhappy. If they are happy, they have higher chances of laying large eggs which will getting a higher selling price and I would just save that micromanagment and keep them.

I don't think they die, no. I think a better reason to sell your farm animals once you've filled the relevant donation bundles is to free up time from your morning routine for other things. Going into coops/barns, petting them, and putting their produce into processors easily takes an hour or two.

Also hay logistics are a nightmare. I, for one, will be leaving the ranching to Marnie.

Thanks for the replies. I think after I get my Large Goat Milk, I'll sell off the goat, and just keep the cows. I tend to turn all milk into Cheese, sell the golden cheese, and then head to the Saloon on Fridays and Saturdays to foist all my cheese off to everyone for happiness.

*Enters Saloon*
"Hey everyone! Here, have some cheese.. and you, and you.. oh and you too! Yup, cheese for everyone!"

I imagine the patrons are like thinking "Aw geez, not this crazy nutter again!" ;-)

Yes grass needs to grow faster and spread faster. It is impossible to keep a full barn and coop, 12 each, fully fed.

If you wanna sell chickens, get the coop upgrade. You'll get the incubator and you won't need to buy chickens or ducks from Marnie anymore.

1. Hatch eggs
2. Max heart your little poultry friends
3. ??????
4. Profit

Edit:
Just remembered that ducks sell for ~5000g max heart. But I've been selling them as soon as they hatch, around 1000g.

Although not exactly tasteful looking, you could think about phasing out your regular chickens in favor of all Void chickens.

I didn't record the info, but I am almost certain they produced eggs as often as the regular chickens, but thier eggs are always worth 100, instead of 50.

Turffles have quality levels too that depend on Pig happiness. A mere 4000g profit seems small compared to a potential 650 or 750 a day.
it doesn't matter if you have forageing level 10 as foraging perks work on them or turn it into oil!!

I think they are only worth 50 but guaranteed 50.

You are right. I was think the values were 50/100, but they are 25/50. Void eggs always value high, was my main point, but thanks for catching that.

And yeah, processing is nearly always worth it.

Where does one find a Void Egg?
Klumpatsch Mar 6, 2016 @ 4:49am
I have a lot of animals (18, if I recall correctly), and I never bother to sell them, because, like the others pointed out already, five heart animals produce more large eggs/milk, and also I'm already so rich it's not really worth the trouble anymore. I consider creating another coop only with void chickens though, because otherwise their eggs are quite worthless.

BTW, the void egg appears during a random event at night (don't want to spoiler what exactly happens).
Voladus Mar 6, 2016 @ 4:59am
I really wish we could process void eggs or at least use them for something besides gifting them to certain characters because they're not worth it atm.

i only sell ducks, their purpose is selling, usually breed them and when a new one is born i sell the oldest, i always turn the spare eggs into mayo.
