Definatley worth it, all of th non-star crops go straight in the seed maker, and the silver and gold stars go in the selling bit - Profit! AND no more running to Pierre's everytime you run out

This is a very lossy plan, Hakuna. You should ONLY put multi-harvest crops or Ancient fruit into the seed maker.

It is NOT guaranteed to make 2 seeds. I have found that 80% of the time it makes 1 seed, 10% 2 seeds, 10% 3 seeds.

I have been more lucky than you with about half the time 2 seeds. sometimes 3 seeds, and a bit less often just 1. Something like 50 / 30 / 20 I guess.

I agree recycling common crops isn't good. The time to grow it and water / place it takes needs to be factored in. I prefer purchasing a batch of 100+ and using it bit by bit, than keep recycling over and over the same crops (which in the end takes much more time than a single trip to Pierre).

Up to now I used it on out of season crops to grow those in the Greenhouse, the Ancient seed, rare seeds (wanted a bi larger batch, and am in the process of making more beets to complete a mission.

It can be interesting in winter when you prepare the Spring season"s 1st day by everyday using unsold seeds, because you have the time, but you'd still need to have spared enough seeds which isn't likely the 1st season around.

seed maker+ancient fruit+greenhouse=big cash lategame. also with seedmaker you can always produce even if a seed is out of season and not sold. i would craft 2-3 to make live easier.
I will make mention that the seed cost less than the fruit that they are used to produce, even if produced at double quantity. As others mention, it is best to use the seed maker for the crops you cannot produce normally, namely the gem berry and ancient fruit (also strawberries since you can only get them at the middle of Spring via egg festival).

The way I prefer to do it is to plant an initial number (60 is my standard), harvest and convert via seed maker until I get the initial 60 seeds back. Everything else is sale and as you said only for the rarer/more expensive crops.

I especially like combining corn with the seedmaker with Regrow crops planted on Quality Speed-gro fert. You can end up with HUGE fields that water themselves and can be exponentially increased and still have corn to spare for sale.

Funny because I can't put my ancient fruits in the seed maker. How are you able to?

The problem is that going from Summer to Fall with corn is that it removes the fertilizer and you can't refertilize because the plant is in the way.

Are you putting Ancient Fruits, or the Seeds? I can put the fruits in just fine -- I now have a greenhouse full of Ancient Fruit Plants. Bugged maybe?
The result of a Seedmaker is based on your luck. So when you have a Lucky day or even better a very lucky, use a pumpking soup then start using those seedmakers.
im putting 10 starfruit seeds and getting 21-27: 400G Seed vs 750G Starfruit. Totally worth it!
My next playtrought i'm gonna make even more seedmakers.:steamhappy:

No, it is not based on Luck. The seed maker has its one unique algorithim that is not affected by luck. From the wiki:

The Seed Maker can produce 1-3 seeds of the same variety as the input crop (97.5% chance, average of 2 seeds), 1-4 Mixed Seeds (2% chance), or an Ancient Fruit seed (0.5% chance). Neither the number of seeds produced nor the likelihood of getting Mixed Seeds or Ancient Seeds are affected by luck.

http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Seed_Maker

It's the same chance everytime. Has nothing to do the daily Luck or quality the item you use.

It really depends on if you want to game the whole thing to make profit. I find the seed maker useful in pinch, like if I didn't buy enough strawberry seeds the year before or I want to expand my ancient fruit plantings. But otherwise it's tedious and boring, not to mention not good for your blood pressure when you put in a very expensive fruit and get mixed seeds back.

Got now 6 seedmakers works quit good. Well im on floor 110 in the mines and never got a seed there.:yawning_creep:

Keep in mind that you'll have to revisit many floors of the mines many times to get all of the items you need, so just because you haven't found it thus far doesn't mean you won't.

For crops you can buy from Pierre or the Desert, it's pretty easy to decide if it's worth it. Assuming you make on average 2 seeds, then it's worth it to use the seed maker if the plant sells for less than it costs to buy 2 seeds.

Here's an example: For rhubarb it costs 200g to buy 2 seeds, but you'd make 220g by selling that rhubarb instead. So if you buy 2 seeds and sell your crop, you'd make 20g more than using the seed maker. Therefore, the seed maker isn't worth it.

For strawberries, it's still 200g for 2 seeds, but they only sell for 120g each, so you'd save 80g by using the seed maker. Definitely worth it.

For hops, if you don't have kegs and/or you and grinding for the ancient seeds, then just put in hops and selling the seeds is always more profitable than the crop itself unless it is quality crop
