Can't control the game, keyboard issue
I'm having keyboard and mouse issues.
During the character creation I was able to type a character name but wasn't able to move any of the sliders.
In the game itself, the game isn't responding to any of the movement keys (WASD) but does respond to keys like ctr and esc.
Also pressing any of the character keys on the keyboard causes to game to stop responding to mouse clicks.

Has anyone encountered a simillar issue?

I'm having a similar problem. I was able to move the sliders in character creation fine, but on the first morning the character was stuck fidgeting in the bed. After restarting the game I could only move two steps before alphanumeric keys stopped working; after restarting again the character got stuck continually trying to walk into a wall.

Do you have different languages installed and/or an attached controller by chance?

If you have other languages installed with your keyboard be sure you are using the english united states one.

That was the first thing I checked, but it wasn't it. Additional languages and controllers are a shot in the dark, but a start at troubleshooting to see if our setups have anything in common. I had a very similar bug in Your Quest that resolved for a few days after a patch then reverted, but the dev could never figure out what was causing it. I found a more active thread for our problem: http://steamcommunity.com/app/413150/discussions/0/405692758723039878

Thanks for your help guys.
I was finally able to solve the issue.
Turns out that the game wasn't getting the input correctly because I'm using Synergy as a virtual KVM.
If you're using a software KVM and having a similar issue I suggest disabling it.

So glad that I came here. I was having the same issue (I could get to the menus with escape, but couldn't click on anything, or move with the keyboard... my controller worked, though). Turned out it was Synergy. I turned off Synergy and everything worked fine. Thanks! :steamhappy:

tl;dr Antilogger is another program that creates this problem.

I moved to another thread back when I was looking for a solution, but for anyone who winds up here later the problem was solved for me and a few others by disabling Antilogger. Oddly, this occurred even when the keystrokes were left unencrypted and only the SSL intrusion protection (or a similar name) was in use. This problem also cropped up in another game called Your Quest, and according to its dev both Your Quest and Stardew Valley used Microsoft's XNA. If none of the fixes here work for you, there seems to be a weird bug with XNA and various programs that affect/monitor/tinker with keyboard input; hopefully that would narrow down the troubleshooting.

Opened Region and Language, went to Keyboards and Languages, Change Keyboards, Add, (add any keyboard, I chose Japanese since I play some JP locale games anyway), then apply that as default input language and apply English again. Then you'll have the keyboard language bar on your taskbar. Ingame, if your game has the input issue again, then swap the keyboard language real quick and swap it back (I guess you can't fullscreen for this) to English and you should be able to walk again. Alt-Tabbing seems to break it again and I need to swap-swap back to English every time I go back into the game.
I don't know a permanent solution to this.

Just what I needed, wasted all morning, but thank you!

I use Synergy and this is the only game I've ever had an issue with. I had to disable my synergy service on my host system to play. Hope CA can resolve the issue.

Thanks for the hint's Xander158
