As someone who hates life sims like Animal Crossing but big fan of crafting sandbox RPGs like Terraria...
...Would I like this game? The idea of farming sounds very boring to me, and this game is commonly compared to Animal Crossing, a game series I despise (it is nothing but a collectathon with mindless chores and fetch quests and no actual goal to strive for). At the same time, this game has been compared to Terraria and Starbound and even has mining adventuring in it, and a crafting system. I am a massive fan of Terraria.

So would I like this game, or is it really a mindless chore game like Animal Crossing with no real goal? I hate life sims, but I love crafting RPGs and am getting impatient with Starbound's full release.

I am also the kind of guy who has no care for storyline and character attachment, so I would also like to know how gameplay intrusive the story or dialog in this game is. When too much dialog is going on I get impatient and am all, "Shut up and let me play the freaking game already!"

Got 2 lines in to your post and no, you wouldn't like this game.

You wouldn't want to buy this game. Use your $14.99 for something else.

Honestly, the only part that's really like Animal Crossing is the fishing/collecting part of the game. Farming is the primary focus of the game, but you can forgo this and just become a grizzled fisherman, or spend your days in the mine, clearing out monsters and mining out that sweet sweet mineral. Then again, if a huge portion of the game has absolutely no interest to you, then it's not an easy buy. And since the crafting is tied to your progress in the main activities like farming and fishing etc, you may find gaps in your craftables list which could bother you.

As far as the story goes, it's pretty swift though: cutscenes are skippable, most characters only have 1-2 lines of dialogue per day, it's all pretty much focused on letting you get back to the action.

So, I dunno: it may not be the ideal game for you, but there is content in there for you to enjoy. Wait for a sale I suppose?

you definitely won't like it nop

That's a shame. I have been searching for a crafting sandbox RPG for a long time, and I guess since Stardew Valley only has just a few elements of this genre, it's not suitable for me.

Every crafting RPG I can find that looks good ends up still being in Early Access (I no longer buy Early Access games), and I tried that Crashlands game on Android but its landscape is so plain, lifeless and just uninteresting to really explore.

probably not... Most of what you've listed as bad or annoying is what this game is about.

there are a number of goals to achieve (upgrading your house, bulding a barn, getting to the bottom of the mine, etc)... it's not really like terraria or starbound in most ways but aesthetically.

mostly its a game about watering parsnips, tilling soil, milking cows, and doing fetch quest for villagers (which are sorta optional). Mining will involve going to the place where the monsters are but its not particually challanging (once you get a better weapon).

and its also kind of a game about figuing out which single villager you want to marry... so it has the relationship aspect.

yeah you probably would dislike the game.

So... crafting, +building, -story, -sim aspect, +RPG.
Survival games, then? Have you tried,
Savage Lands
Frontiers
Astal Terra
craft The World
Don't Starve
Fallout 4
Hearthlands
Life is Feudal
Starbound
?

I'm not familiar with Animal Crossing, so I can't really speak to that. But if I were a gambling man, I would not put money on you enjoying the game unless the house was giving me pretty good odds.

That said, it's not inconceivable. Particularly if you consider "build a successful farm" to be a compelling take on crafting/building (in addition to the more conventional "Combine items X, Y, and Z, to get New Item XYZ").

The villager quests, and socialization in general, are optional. The community center quests (which are probably the biggest chunk of fetch/collectathon stuff) are optional—you can gain pretty much the same benefits by just throwing money in a different direction, leaving you free to focus on the farm-building / non-collecty aspects.

Depending on your take, yes, there may be some mindless chores. There isn't really a clearly defined end-goal. But who knows?

My vote would be "Get it, set a timer or alarm to go off after 100 minutes, and try it out. You should get a decent idea of what the ultimate deal is, and if it's not up your alley, you can refund it."

Savage Lands: Early Access and First Person, so no.
Frontiers: Early Access and First Person.
Astral Terra: Early Access and First Person.
Craft the World: I have actually been eyeballing this game for a long time. I have heard that it is incredibly slow-paced, though, which has been keeping me on the fence. I still have it under consideration.
Don't Starve: I have played it. It's fun, but I am looking more for something that doesn't have permanent death. I only like permanent death in games with short play sessions like Binding of Isaac (which is 30 minutes to an hour per run). In Don't Starve you can lose dozens of hours by dying.
Fallout 4: It's out of my price range, and I am not a big fan of the setting. Also it's First Person. I kind of liked its cousin Elder Scrolls series, though, so maybe when it is on sale I'll check it out.
Hearthlands: This is more of a city builder, and it's in Early Access.
Life is Feudal: It has mixed reviews, and it's multiplayer. I prefer the single player experience.
Starbound: Impatiently waiting on it to leave Early Access. Will totally play it once it happens. I already own the game but really want to experience the game when it's finished.

First of all, I dislike Animal Crossing as well, so that's one less thing to worry about.

I also have never cared about story; townsfolk can be totally ignored without repercussions.

And because you didn't mention any hate towards Harvest Moon — there is still hope. :AWESOME:

I find posts like this to be pretty amusing...

"Hey guys, I hate chocolate, and I hate Ice Cream...Should I buy this chocolate ice cream? Would I like it?"

I think you already know the answer to your question. Just quickly glancing over the screenshots and videos and you could clearly see this game has alot of focus on farming and villager interaction...so why even ask?

Because it has elements from a game that I really like (Terraria), as explained in the OP. I wouldn't have bothered asking if the game didn't contain any crafting and adventuring elements.

I was actually ready to write off the game completely until I read these things about Terraria style crafting, and exploring mines. This increased my interest slightly since I have been searching for a crafting RPG for a very long time.

So it's more of, "I hate ice cream, but this one is vanilla flavored and I love vanilla. Would I like it?"

Boyfriend suggests Naval Action for complex crafting. No building though.

No EA and no first person is a tough sell. Life is Feudal has a single player attachment. It's called Life Is Feudal: Your Own

So, +crafting +building -first person -city builder +combat +RPG -no sim aspect +singleplayer.
Huh.

How are you with PVP? Mortal Online is hella fun, best crafting system I've ever found but it's multyplayer and there's PVP. I quit. :/
Planet Explorers
Waste Walkers
Could try Wayward (non steam game, go google) might fit your bill. It's got perma death, but it gets easier after each death as you learn what you did wrong and you get a little farther each time.

I hate animal crossing, but I loved stardew valley, but yeah collecting is something I don't like much in the game, but it is good to have your own little farm and craft things, also the mines are really cool, it could be more challenging tho. I'm hoping the developer focus a little more in the combat/RPG area with future updates, like Rune factory, or that someone mods more combat into the game when he releases steam workshop.
