Geologist gets you more gems and more importantly geodes at level 10...
I went miner and later game I wish I had gone geologist for the double geodes..
If the reason is extra cash, is it worth it compared to saving time when you need to go out for ore and also get double coal (if you choose this path)?
On my current playthrough I used Geologist, which was fun because I had an extra 20,000 by Summer 1 Year 1 to buy more seeds and max out my farm. That beubg said, I don't have access to as much Iridium Ore as I had in my previous run (Probably sitting on 60-80 less Iridium Ores at the moment), but overall I have a lot more gold (3 mil at Spring 13 Year 2).

So yeah take whichever you want, both of them end up becomming useless at late game when you're drowing in money because ancient fruit wine is OP.
Not when you need 500 Iridium Bars by end of Summer Y2 :P, also Ancient Fruit Wine becomes more practical to have up after Y2, if you want to get 10 million + gold before end of Y2, stick to farming, mining and fishing (since Barrels got nerfed).
If you need that much it's because you are obviously planning a grand scale farm and know what you are doing. In that case you'd already have the funds to buy stones like a madman and reach really low depth in the cave to mine all the iridium ore you need.
