Do animals die?
I woke up this morning and noticed that two of my chickens are gone, they are no where to be found. Do animals just die or did something else happen? Also are we suppose to close the coop every night? Because I have been leaving it open, wondering if maybe that played a role in their disappearance.

Animals can't die, starve or be killed by predators in this game. I always keep the coop open and nothing ever happens. Your chickens are probably walking around on the farm somewhere, just check the coop at the evening, they'll be back.

My barns and coops are always open unless its Winter. I also have no fences on my farm and my animals roam where they want to. I have never lost any animals and they lay eggs and give me regular milk etc. Just make sure you give them lots of love.

its a random event, like the witch, you hear a wolf/fox or whatever and an animal scream in the nignt, and one or more of your animals are gone...regardless if u have fences or your barn/coop door is open or closed...

Sorry, but I don't believe you. I've got 3 full barns and in more than 2 game years not a single animal got lost even though the hatch was open all the time. As they say: "proof or it didn't happen".

its random, had it one time in first year, and appears on the barn, it was closed all night, had open the coop all year except in winter, nothing happened there...

The first time I thought I had lost an animal, it turns out that it just got lost and didn't return to the barn at night. It turns out that if you have an unfenced barn or coop, the animals can wander anywhere on your farm, and don't always make it back.

Around 6PM they all start moving back to their building for the night. If they get stuck or blocked in by fencing or trees, they won't make it back to their building, they'll spend the night outdoors and in the morning will be in that same place.

So they're probably not dead, they're stuck somewhere.

Cornflakes, that explanation actually makes sense. This happened to me a few times already - I had a cow standing around my farm at night, even in the rain... but eventually it always returned into the barn.

Has anyone asked ConcernedApe via his Twitter whether this is a real thing (disappearing to unseen wolves or whatever) or some kind of glitch?

I personally don't doubt that some people may have livestock disappear. It just hasn't happened to me, over several characters, game-years, no fences, etc. Most of the time I do close the hatches at night, however.
