Whats with these farville/hayday games?
Why would I want to play farm simulator that seems aimed to kids? Went to twitch to follow it for 15min and man, that was tedious and grindy. Is there automated harvest or rival farms competing with you? Can you make monopoly and buy out other competition? Give me some reason, what is the main things that keep you playing? I dont really understand, or is this just the ultimate game for all farmvillers and haydayers?

Farmville?????? HayDAY>>>>??? Ermm are those like browser games, no this game is a full fledge Country life farming simulator. Please don't compare it to click to plant crops games like Farmville please. You need to look at Harvest Moon series and maybe the Rune Factory kind and see why there are people who like this kind of games. It's like 'The Sims' but with Farming focused.

I think you summed it all up pretty well right here:

This game is not about competition. It isn't even about "winning." It's basically a laid-back rural-life simulator/lite-RPG.

I don't know what "hayday" is, but about the only thing it has in common with Farmville is the word "Farm."

Edit: In any case, it isn't our responsibility (or anyone's) to convince you one way or another, especially when you show up and immediately start blindly insulting the game. Why would you even bother coming here and doing that? It clearly isn't something that appeals to you in the first place, so what's the point?

Well technically this game is basically a niche genre, if you are a person who likes something like Action Adventure RPG with dragons and swords and badassery, this is not that kind of game. It's more like a relaxing game of living in a Countryside after getting fed up from modern life slave working. Surprisingly, this is a kind of peaceful game. Nothing disastrous would happen to you anytime so no stress on that. Just real farming stuff, not casual farming.

This game is better suited for folks who were fans of the old Harvest Moon games tbh. If you never liked games like that you'll probably dislike this game.

I got the Sims referral, and I think crafting/farming is sometimes fine as a part of a game, but whole game about it? I'm just really surprised there is this big audience for this kind of game.
It seems easy to pick up for anybody, and very casual. Maybe thats just what it is. I must have been trying to find something that isnt there.

It's essentially a JRPG, not a strategy game, that might be the misconception. Its focus is more on character development and interacting with/exploring the world. Optimizing your farm and making money is part of it, but it's more about the story it tells and the world it builds.

Don't mind the master poet over there, Kosmiic seems to have too much time on their hands right now.

Hahah Manne, I guess you can say we're a huge audience because this kind of game has not been on a PC truly like this ever before. Most people enjoy games and sometimes they feel fed up of the same old game genres and wanted to go back to the old Harvest Moon like slow paced games, whcih this is currently catering to. If you look at why Harvest Moon still have it's franchise today is because of how charming it is. You get a farm from your belated grandfather, and then you get to start from nothing, then you slowly improve it, renovate it, and then finally turning it into a dream farm which maybe it's not possible even in Real Life because there are lesser and lesser countryside farms today than before. I play this game cause it reminded me of my Grandparents whom are just retired and still planting and making a small farm beside the house. Makes me feel at home with them you know.

I'm not even sure I'd call this really a game. It's more a relaxation tool. You don't have to do anything. You can spend the entire "day" fishing, or go kill stuff in the mine. You can wander around and eat wild berries.

If you choose to "work" your farm you can make a ton of money and really change your farm plot around, get a bunch of acheivements but even that . . . it's one day at a time. Maybe twenty mnutes of play and if you see a screw up in the middle you just quit after ten minutes and start the morning over.

Sure I could stress out about Joja or the community center quest line, or try to get all the big unlocks if I wanted . . . or I could give people gifts every day and hunt them down to double click them like a stalker but . . . I don't HAVE to.

Right now I consider playing a bit of this sort of like laying down to listen to soft music, or taking a moment to meditate. It's very casual; a good break from the rogue likes I normally play.

farmville was a travesty. this is nothing like that. it's a casual game, and that's perfectly fine. i play competitive multiplayer games, and so do many of my friends who are also playing stardew now

Pretty much a matter of personal interest and enthusiasm.
To me, my style in mostly any game is farming and grinding.

This totally depends on one's preference tbh.
