Scarecrow and sprinkler placements
Its my 2nd year, and I have decided to grow a fruit bearing tree, but I'm really scared of birds jacking this up for me. The description says that it will only grow if the 8 surrounding tiles are "empty" does that mean I can't slap a scarecrow up on top of it? No Sprinklers? I'm really confused and the tree I chose was like 6000 lol. Anyone have experience with this?

Fruit trees do not need scare crows or sprinklers. You don't till the ground, and it will let you know when you plant it if anything is too close. Oh and the fruit trees are saplings not seeds so crows won't steal it.

Trees don't need watering, and the 8 tiles it says are the ones circling the tree. For example, imagine the quality sprinkler, it waters the 8 tiles around itself. Those are the tiles you must keep clear. Just position the sappling as you would a sprinkler, on untilled ground and have a scarecrow within range. Some people say crows won't attack the sapplings, but I already had one disappear once so I don't risk it anymore. =P

I don't think trees are affected by crows.
Scarecrows area are 8 tiles of radius (I recommend you use the max of 7 tiles).
But you could try to place one scarecrow at each 4 trees, and you would be ok.
Trees doesn't need sprinklers.

Ouch, thoese guys are fast rofl, two responses faster than mine xD

Just follow this pattern. always leave trees with nothing on their sides.

For trees, you need a 3x3 area of open land. Scarecrows cover a 16x16 area (can't confirm 'corners', but I doubt it's a radial footprint)

@zourin CA said it had a radius of 8 tiles, I tried to put 16 spaces between my scarecrows but crows did attack the crop in the middle ._.
So to be safe I'm using 7 tiles.

I made a sugestion to CA to scarecrows show the protected area when right click, let's see if he implements that

A radius of 8 means a diameter of 16, hence 16x16 which is exactly what Zourin said.

I know, but he said he couldn't confirm, I just stated what CA said. Also the diameter would be 17 if the radius is measured without the scarecrow, cause the scarecrow is a tile.

I'm not confronting his statement, I'm just trying to add more info.

Thank you guys so much!

You're welcome, also ...I don't recommend going for a lots of fruit trees of the same type, they are not that profitable and one of each should supply all your needs for Community Center.

Actually, they are pretty profitable and not very time consuming. You can skip them for a few days and they accumulate at 1 per day (4 being max I think, might be 3) so you can get them when you have time, and you get 28 a month.

They are all wonderful to put in the keg... hint hint ;)

So.. IRL chickens will destroy your garden unless its blocked off, does the same apply to stardew?
Driko Mar 3, 2016 @ 1:43am
Na, they just eat grass patches, be sure to have a lot planted, also...don't cut the grass without having a silo and try to build at least one silo before winter, otherwise it will all be destroyed.
