Not one of my animals showed any differences in happiness, and everyday their status was either "they are fine" or "Is very happy today!"
EDIT* I should note I put them in diagonal corners, one in the top left, the other in the bottom right.
They're not running.
They are barely kept level when they can't run around your yard and graze, Everything else has to go absolutely perfect as a result or they're not rising in happiness. and If they don't rise in happiness, Then they'll be grumpy even if they're not falling in happiness
Zaelox is correct -- you only need one heater even at the largest levels of barns/coops.
@Kurzidan -- this is not correct. I've kept my animals indoors Spring, Summer, and Fall, not letting them out at all. (I have no pasture, and I don't want to chase them around the yard. The auto-feeder feeds them). They are all very happy and at max hearts.
All you need to do is feed them and pat them daily, and they produce regularly.
