Placing a geode on an anvil: I admit defeat

I've just spent the past 20 minutes trying to figure out how to set a geode on the anvil, so the Blacksmith can supposedly crack it open. I've tried clicking on the anvil with all varities of mouse buttons, from all angles, with the geode selected and and not selected, you name it, I've tried it ... and it does not work.

So I give up. Only a couple hours in, and the game has me stumped. What is the great secret to geodes and anvils?

You have to grab the geo out of your inventory and put it on the anvil.

Talk to the blacksmith from across the counter. =]

Talk to Blacksmith and ask him to do it, then move geodes on anvil in appeared window.

Talk to the blacksmith, select the option about geodes, click and drop them in the window.
