Large milk/eggs
I've had my chickens/cow/goat for two seasons now, fed them every day, kept them warm, gave them attention let them outside, and I have only gotten one brown large egg way back the first week or so after the chickens grew up. It shouldn't take this long to get just ONE. How in the world do I get large eggs and milks. I'm doing everything right as far as I know.

It sometimes takes me a while to save up for a large load of milk on the inside as well. I know how those cows feel, you can't have a large load if the milk is always drained to nothing.

So should I just not milk them for a while?

I think you were just unlucky, with my chickens on max hearts I get a large egg day yes day no.
My cow gave a large milk on the first day but now only small ones, but she's still not full hearts so I'll wait and see.

Yeah the poor cows ...
Seriously though it seems to be very much the case that as they get happier the rate of large produce improves. I would consider thinking it as increasing drop rates. These numbers are COMPLETELY made up but an example might be that at 0 happiness it is a 5% chance but at max happiness could be 25% chance. Keep them happy and generally can get the large stuff within the first month. The rabbit foot however? Good luck, I haven't gotten one from a fully happy rabbit that is 5 seasons old.

How do you get the hearts to go up to full? I've been feeding/caring for them all this time but they're all still at like...half a heart or one heart.

I just bought it from the black market merchant, she sells them very often.

Some people are just naturally not good with animals. Take my sister's dog for instance. It legit wants to kill me for no reason.

Right click them to pet them EVERY DAY, never forget to leave enough food, let them out during the day by opening that small door next to the door you use (in a fenced area because they have a chance of escaping if you let them out without fences) and don't forget to close that little door at night after they all go back inside (around 5:40 PM), have a heater for winter. Do all those things and they'll fill those hearts in a blink.

Everything you've described is precisely what I've done for two seasons :(

Actually I am not sure you need to open and close it constantly. I just left it open and with around a season all my animals would be max happiness.

The only night I left it open all night long my chickens didn't lose any heart but all of them were marked as "Looking Sad" so I don't take any chances.

I find that every so often I would get looking sad for animals. Most of the time was random. Think it can just randomly happen. Are your outside areas fenced in with grass?
PhilkIced Mar 2, 2016 @ 9:12am
Yes, they have grass, I also get a sad looking from time to time but that one time it was all the 4 chickens and 2 ducks at once so I thought it was weird and decided to close it every night, it actually adds to the imersion so I think now I would do it even if it really doesn't do anything.

It must also factor in farming level. I got my first chickens/cows when my level was maxed, just for the community center items.

Within a few days of them 'growing up' I had a large milk and a large egg of each variety. I did feed them and pet them every day, but it literally only took like 3-4 ingame days and none of the animals had more than 1 star. Must have something to do with farming level.

My farming level is maxed as well, no such luck.
