The Red Snapper (Fishing Rage)
I've noticed in the time that I've been playing that each fish in the fishing minigame behaves a very specific way when you're reeling them in, so it's possible to know with 100% certainty what fish you have on the line based purely on the way it behaves during the minigame. That being said, I'm positive that the last fish I need to finish the Community Center fish tank is the Red Snapper, because no other fish behaves in the erratic up-and-down zig-zag like this one.

I'm at level 9 fishing, I'm relatively proficient with this minigame to the point where for the longest time I didn't understand why so many people hated it. It takes a bit of practice, but it's good fun once you get the hang of it.

Now here I am, practically a fishing guru with every different kind of tackle I can think to bring, and I cannot for the absolute life of me catch this stupid Red Snapper. Is this even possible to do in its current state? I've been trying to snag him almost the entire summer in Year 2 now, and I've never gotten the overall progress bar (And my green bar takes up more than 1/3rd of my minigame bar now, mind you) to more than 60% before losing it entirely just because the fish behaves so erratically. Is there something I'm missing, or is this dinky, little fish just unintentionally harder to catch than even the Legendary fish I've found, so far?

Edit: I stand corrected. I just fished up a Red Snapper with little to no effort at all using the Barbed Hook. I have to wonder if the Barbed Hook just calmed him down, or if I just happen to keep snagging something wholly different and mistakenly assumed it was the Red Snapper.

I catch the red snapper alot but I know others who can't seem to get itl.Its pretty easy to get its not like legendary diffuiculty or anything like that. Its like sardine or tuna difficulty. I caught mine in either summer or spring and I was always on the long dock that was all the way on the left of the beach,I ould go to the end and fish out ahead of me and I got plenty of gold star fish including red snappers.I never used any bait or equipment.

I'm not sure what was happening, then. I'm just reeling them in hand-over-fist now, but either their behaviour changed or there's some kind of Legendary fish out here that I've yet to reel in, before. I could never for the life of me reel whatever that was in, even though I'd wager my fishing success rate overall is about a 90-95%. The Red Snapper I reeled in wasn't using the same jerky, erratic up-and-down pattern that I've seen so far, so I'm starting to think whatever that was was not the Snapper, or that the Barbed Hook changed its pattern in some way.

Yeah for the fast fish in the ocean i tried the barb hook and it just mde t hard to catch. if the fish was a legenfary fish then when you start to real it in the fish ico on the rode changed to like a fish with a blue or maybe its a blue star can tell but the icon is different. The onein the ocean that is like fast and jerky i assume is the octopus I have yet to catch the bastard of a fish.

Oh, right. Legendaries have crowns. It's entirely possible that's an octopus or a squid, then. All I know for certain now is it's not the Snapper, and it's a real jackwagon of a fish to catch. I'm definitely glad that it's not required for the Community Center, because I've rage-quit a few times already because of that slimy punk.

its not the squid I have caught the squid and its diffuicult but not as difficult as that one BS fish. Im noyt positive but im like 99.9% sure its the stupid octopus.

It might be a Lingcod, I just caught one by sheer luck... The bobber just went all over the place.

I'm pretty sure that the red snapper isn't one of the highly erratic fish. I've caught a lot of them in summer, and I have a pretty hard time with the crazy ones still, so... it was probably one of the other fish.

its not the lingcod, I think those are freshwater fish and we were talking about a stupid ocean fish, You will know the one were talking about once you start fishing in the ocean,

I'm trying to catch this fish during summer too, and I keep running into one which is nearly impossible to catch. I'm using the bamboo rod with bait, and I can't afford the Irridium rod so I don't know what other options I have. This fish basically jumps back and forth on the bar and I can't really keep up with it...not sure if it's the red snapper.
I don't believe the red snapper to be all that difficult, I was catching them somewhat easily early on in the game. Both the Octopus and the Pufferfish can be troublesome during the summer time if you don't have the proper equipment.

Ok just caught a couple of Red snappers, and they were really easy. Prior I was fishing during a day when it wasn't raining and I guess some other fish/squid was giving me a huge problem.

I came to this thread because I couldn't find the damn thing, but when I finally did (on the long dock to the left) it was very easy (with trout soup and trap lure).

Yeah, long dock on the left works really good.
