Generally speaking you make a lot more on things that take longer (which can be great with reduction in growth times) and multiple harvesting generally gets less from first harvest but adds up more long term making corn a favourite to some.
So far I tend to like the longer harvest stuff but for fall cranberries are my favourite. They are multiple harvest with a chance at multiple berries per crop harvested. Can't remember my spring choice but I also like melons for summer.
Out of everything in the game, it's going to be either star fruit, ancient fruit, or whatever the rare seeds grow. Thinking star fruit, but I can't say for certain yet.
Out of the seeds you buy at the store the first year it's Cauliflower in spring, blueberries or melons in summer, pumpkins in fall.
If you're asking about the single most valuable item in the game... I haven't bothered looking, sorry.
Which fruit or vegetable is the most ROI isn't a matter of playstyle choice or opinion. The answers are set in stone: cauliflower in spring, blueberries/melons in summer, pumpkins in fall. But that's only out of the store bought seeds in year 1, I don't have enough information to judge every crop yet.
The reason blueberries or melons is a matter of choice is because blueberries give variable amounts of harvest and melons are steady. With good RNG blueberries are way better, with bad RNG melons are better. On average blueberries should edge out melons, though. That's the only one where it's a matter of choice.
Yeah, that's basically why I say it's probably star fruit.
I typed that before I saw your post. I'm not disagreeing with you, but it's not the answer to the question the OP asked. What thing gives the most money is a factual question outside of preferences. Apparently OP's preference is to get the thing that makes the most amount of profit, which can be determined mathematically.
For reference, I only ever plant fruit, I don't care what's the most profitable. I'm in the wine making business. But I don't see the point in telling the OP that it's a matter of preference when they already stated their intentions with their question.
