Selling your animal from the ducklings I've sold vanish into a puff of green smoke, pretty cutesy harmless method, does it become less cute just because your inventory is filled with meat and because you're making meat? There's no gore, there's no blood, and if it helps you sleep at night, a wizard magically gave you meat for "sacrificing" your animal, and your animal is actually safe and sound and the two are unrelated and in your head you can imagine you just sold your cow/pig for meat.
Or being able to harvest meat without actually killing/sacrificing anything like milk, and wool (from sheeps), use a magic spell/tool and harvest unprocessed meat from said animal, and wait like 3 or more days until you can harvest again. Put unprocessed meat into specific machines, and Viola, hamburger, or chicken, pork. Etc.
There are WAYS to include meat that fit the theme of the game. It doesn't need to be about having a butchering knife and hacking at animals like you chopping a tree until it explodes to various meat items.
Hell if science fiction can be in the game if it can, just create a building that automatically produces unprocessed meat without animals. Add a device in the barns or coops that allows the collection of DNA. And then have a machine that combines DNA with the unprocessed meat to create various kinds of meats.
So there are plenty of ways to include meat, it doesn't need to be "dark" in order to work. I'm not expecting Far Cry Primal here. I expect "offscreen" production and there are ways that don't even need to sacrifice animals. Or simply....a wizard did it.
I like the whole magic meat thing. We just use magic to somehow harness the... Meatiness of an animal, without doing any harm to it whatsoever. The animal is happy, the farmer is happy, and hamburgers. Whoo!
But don't hold your breath on butchering being re-added. I'm sure ConcernedApe had his own reasons for removing it, aside from any individual protesting. As he's shown with Fishing, he's fine if you mod it, but if he likes how it works he's not going to change it.
I think there's quite a difference between being able to love who you choose, and taking the life of something purely for your own taste buds. The two do not work toghether here.
Zelda has both evil sentient pig people and friendly normal pigs. The enemies disappear in puffs of smoke upon defeat. The normal pigs you can't attack to harvest bacon from.
Yet appereantly it should totally have been possible to do so with no problems, because defeating enemies is the same as slaughtering a friendly animal? Really?
I would not mind having meat in this game, but I do not really see a way to add this properly. Normal butchering? No diary farmer outright kills their own livestock when they still produce, this is a stupid, grim and unrealistic option.
Only harvesting an animal when it dies of age then? I guess you can have an animal croak after a few years and then harvest their organs, but animals dieing of age would be super annoying, the meat gain would be far too infrequent meaning every burger is sacred and you'd force people who wouldn't want butchering in it too.
Magic? Geesh, that'd be an even cheaper way out than what we got now. Shall we also use magic to conjure lifeless objects that look and taste like fish, send away enemies to happy dimensions and ask trees and crops to share their goods? This is the most hippie suggestion I've seen.
Pierre/Joja selling it? Now aside from it being really annoying to depend on the store for recipes to work, this is certanly a fair option. Though that won't satisfy the bloodlust of people who want to be able to outright murder their own livestock because they fail to see the difference between regular enemies that go poof upon death, portraits of fish and pets that love you.
Adding cattle whose only purpose is for slaughter? It wouldn't fit Marnie to sell that and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that is seriously dark. Darker than incinerating slimes in Slime Rancher, beating up pinatas and feeding their candy to their kids in Viva Pinata and having animals die of illness in Harvest Moon.
All in all, I can't see it happen without there being some issue.
Just make the meat magic meat, like someone suggested. You get meat, no harm to the animal, everyone is happy.
Like how the rabbits have an untold amount of feet to shed off?
Pretty brutal if you think about those ones..... At least in butchering them, they die, we dont just maim them and keep em around for our petting amusment.
Exactly. I assume that is magic.
The very essence of rabbits being lucky conjures a rabbits foot, as people percieve the rabbit to be lucky, so it is lucky.
You didnt get the point though. Equality and freedom of choise is the same thing no matter in what context. We should have the choise if we really wanted to. But oh well, mods :D either way people get what they want. Im not gonna butcher anything myself, thats not what i play the game for.
