Previously there were 2 types of pigs, a meat hog, and the truffle pig, which is now the only pig, that solves the "dairy farmers don't just kill producing livestock" issue, so don't even bother spouting the "It wouldn't fit Marnie to sell that", everyone in town except penny loves severed rabbits feet too, which was clearly a butchering item that became a harvestable one because it makes ZERO sense as is.
Once again, slimes don't go "poof" they splatter into piles of goop that once made up their bodies, which we harvest.
If that wasn't bad enough, shadow people are flat out sentient humanoids protecting their territory, animals are a step DOWN from that.
Murdering the indigenous is not morally superior to butchering livestock.
I sell my ducklings the moment I name them, which I now find is better to just leave its default chosen name, so I don't know.
Again there are ways around this. It doesn't need to be personal.
The slimes, the bats, the insects, the whatever the rest is, are animals (the spirits, ghosts and other stuff are not, of course). You go into their territory. You harvest them for fish bait, slime, bat wings and coal.
Whats the difference between that and slaughtering a pig?
When you get deeper into the mines, you will encounter shadow people (like the friendly one in the sewers). They attack you. Why? Because you are trespasing and armed and dangerous. Actually the mines are pretty sad. You go in there and start slaughtering some tribal natives, because they dont look nice.
Thats actually pretty sick. (like I said, this game has a pretty dark tone, even the maker doesnt recognize)
'tis true, Stardew Valley is so hardcore in the end. What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up game it is.
Most people are not saying there should be a bloody gorey slaughter house fit into the game. You just go to the butchers, select the animal, and put the animal products into your inventory.
Honestly I would rather there just to be an automated processing "plant" that you can place on the farm.
Not that I wouldn't mind a butcher like NPC, where maybe he can sell rare and exotic meat for unique recipies, but I'd rather not have to travel to town just to sell an animal and get meat out of it.
I mean if there has to be an actual person that needs to process the animal, because magic meat or an automated machine doesn't work for the developer then maybe, but I'd rather there not be a butcher outside of selling rare exotic meat or buying your own meat products, like how Clint buys your minerals and Pierre buys your crops.
Side One:
"Erhhmahgurd censorship ♥♥♥ dem vegans i aint a kid lemme 420noscope a cow in da head boi ill do it no balls - NO BALLS"
Side Two:
"B-BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN! YOU'RE AN ANIMAL IF YOU SLAUGHTER THOSE POOR DEFENCELESS ANIMALS! IT DOESN'T FIT THIS CUTE GAME!"
For real though, it makes no sense to take it out. It's a part of farming, I used to work on a farm that would occasionally slaughter their cows and sell it to locals. That ♥♥♥♥ isn't as big of a deal as it's made out to be.
As for the whole "it wouldn't make sense to name your animal, pet it and love it, and then slaughter it" argument... That's pretty much part of the farming job.
Besides, this game talks about ♥♥♥♥ war atrocities, hints of possible domestic abuse, and even violence *cough*lookingatyouleah*cough*.
To say it "doesn't fit" the game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ since you can go 120 levels into a mine and slaughter everything with swords, bombs, and slingshots...
Yeah, the majority of the game is cute but when you look at the dialogue and events, that ♥♥♥♥ isn't as cute as you think.
...but either way the sun will still rise tomorrow so who gives a ♥♥♥♥.
Introducing the alternative Stardew Valley Story, when you butcher animals, there's a small chance that there will no longer sunlight, this is bad because monsters come out and you have to fight them off all the time. If you die, you have to completely restart the game.
Stardew Valley: Survival Mode! You Shouldn't Have Killed Bessie the Cow! Achievement Unlocked.
Cows produce milk only for a period after the birth of a calf -- for a cow to be used as a dairy animal, she has to be bred every year.
And obviously breeding isn't super-realistic here either! I don't see the point of freaking out about one specific thing when the whole game is just intended as a fantasy.
it would just be weird if you been a harvest moon fan (pretty sure the dev is one).
but yes, there will be mods. no worries.
+1
sounds
awesome!
Really? my god thats so pathetic. shame the devs are so limp wristed. :(
I haven't met the Shadow People yet, but you make it sound like they only attack when you attack them. Thus far everything I killed in the mines was a dangerous creature that attacked on sight. if the shadow people do the same despite appereantly having humanlike intellect, then they are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who attack on sight. Only an evil people would kill someone just for trespassing.
Attacking clearly hostile entities out of self defense is not the same as slaughtering a healthy pet who loves you for personal profit.
