Does your farm have a specialty? What is it?

I'm curious what other farmers have specialized in. By this I mean, do you mostly grow crops? A certain kind of crop? Maybe you are a tree farmer, tapping maple syrup? How about a winery, with an orchard and kegs?

I'm starting a new game (due to house upgrade bug, read into it if your about to upgrade) -- and thinking about what kind of farm I want to have :) (Mostly so I can make a sweet name).

Currently, I'm thinking a Brewery! In the summer I'll grow as many hops as possible and store them away, then make a batch of beer each day from the stockpile of hops. That means I'll only really be busy farming in the spring, with some quick work every morning -- leaving the other 3 seasons for foraging, mining, socializing, ect. Anyone tried this yet?

My farm is mostly just crops with a few barrels and kegs on the side.
I'm slowly turning the whole zone into a plowed field due to automated sprinklers

Well I have a huge part of my land covered in trees if that counts.

I'm specializing in crops for now but will be doing a bit of everything eventually. I'm doing a blind playthrough (coming to discussions for help if needed though) and once I'm comfortable with how the game works and how I should best spend my time, etc., i'll start a new game and then decide what i'm going to focus on the most (that's if I decide I want to be something specific!)

Wow, that is a lot of trees ASwarmOfKittenz. I thought they wouldnt grow so close together, but apparently so.

I'm from Canada and we have lots of places here that make maple syrup. Would be cool to tap a bunch of maple trees and sell syrup haha.

Lots of cool ideas. I think most people are just getting the feel for things during their first year. Since I'm restarting, figured I might as well plan it a bit more; try and get things going in the first year.

Is there a point to specializing? Don't you need to get all sorts of products to unlock stuff in the community center?

You can specialize and still dabble in a lot of other things. I think most people just find something that works for them -- either for profit or enjoyment -- and then somehow scale it up.

And Qwynn, I know you can already make tappers -- I'm just curious if anyone has tried it as a way of sustainable income farming. I'm picturing rows of maple trees with dozens, or hundreds, of tappers! Each day, you could stroll through your forest and collect the syrup :P

So far i've been just trying to figure out the game, growing what I can. I've been trying to save up a little money, but then I realize that every upgrade is insanely expensive lol, so I'm just going to go crazy with potatoes until the summer

@Dex, once you start pulling in 20-50k/harvest, the upgrades don't seem like much :P You could be a potato farmer. Now if only you could make moonshine!
