I need another rainbow shell

how can i get one? i sold the one that i was given in a quest or a mail, but now it turns out i need one for a quest =/

You can sometimes find them on the beach. I found a couple just before the Jelly festival in summer.

can anybody confirm if this is just a summer thing? because i've been checking every day since fall (its now mid spring of year 2) and i havent been able to find another rainbow shell.. this is bugging me since its locking quest progress =(

I just found my first two, and it was Summer Year 1. Never saw anything but mussels, clams, corals and sea urchins in the Spring.

If you are friends with Demetrius he will occassionally send you mail with some of his research findings, which contains an item.

From what I have experienced, a Rainbow Shell is an option to get from these mails. Also interesting: The gift item in the mail resets if you restart the day (unlike most things). I've had it bounce back and forth between Bream and Rainbow Shells.
YMMV of course.

As far as season goes for the shells, I believe spring is also a time when they can spawn. Don't quote me on this.

They won't spawn on spring, it's really just summer.
