Squids... anyone?

Been trying to catch a squid for the winter quest and having no luck at all. Any tips or pointers anyone? I've tried in the day and evening all the way up till midnight D:

I get squid regularly in the Winter on the ocean during the night time.

I couldn't catch one to save my life the first two nights I tried, but on the third night I managed to catch three of them, so there definitely appears to be an element of luck to it.

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I was fishing from the pier right outside the bait shop.

The squids are one of the more difficult types of fish to reel in. They are very feisty and dart all over the place on the meter, much like the pike. Therefore, I hope your fishing skill is and rod are up to snuff.

I had trouble with this as well, but then I started getting squids when I cast on a shorter line.

Got it outside the fish rod shop on my FIRST try with a 3 segment line length (yellow color bar). I'd been trying for ages with close to max distance to no avail.
