Armor?

is it really just one armor slot (shoes) and 2 ring slots? i was kind of hoping for at least some body armor to wear.. i got down to about lvl 85 of the mine and am using the best shoes i've found (some magma shoes from a chesT) and i still get my ass handed to me REALLY fast by slimes and bats.

is there a better way to get armor? or improve it? it seems like the +3 defense from my shoes dont do jack squat
