Does Anyone Know What The Z key does?

I hear a sound when I press the "Z" key but nothing happens. And there is nothing in the game options that is bound to this key. What is the "Z" key suppose to do? Does anyone know?

I cannot replicate the thing you're describing, and I've tried pressing the 'Z' key in various menus and areas in the game. So, I'm not even sure this is a legitimate question.

Then why does it say that key is already in use when attempting to bind it in the Game Options?

Then why does it give the message that the key is already in use? And why does it make a sound when you press it in the game? This was supposed to have been fixed in 1.01 and others as well as myself still cannot use the Z key.

idk. it makes a noise for me too lol. Probably not anything important.

it's important to me because i want to bind Z to move up.
Really annoying to use W to move up on azerty keyboard!

I found the solution !! Here step by step :
1 - Go in you file explorer : Local hard drive > User > "your folder" > Appdata > Roaming > Stardew Valley
2 - Here you have a file named startup_preferences, open it with text or notepad
3 - Read carefully,
and replace "<toolSwapButton><InputButton><key>Z</key>"
by "<toolSwapButton /><cancelButton><InputButton><key>V</key>"
4 - Save the file, close the game and steam, and then launch steam and the game.
5 - Now you should be able to change the key for move up, because the key Z was used for changing the tools, even if it was showing "tab". Now the key "tab" is actually for changing the tool

I hope this helps someone, and sorry if my english isn't perfect ! :)

Hi all

I tried the solution posted by Subverse but didnt work for me because could not find any binding for Z in the "started preference" file.
But i found a solution that finaly work for me :
-Do what Subverse told for point 1 and 2.
-In the file, search the quote "moveUpButton" (menu edition / search, in notepad)
-In the folowing instruction "<moveUpButton><InputButton><key>W</key>", replace "W" by "Z"
-reboot steam
-start game
-in the option, you can now replace "W" by "Z"
