Withering crops for no reason?
Idk if I missed some detail or if there's some odd randomization, but I got crops that withered in the morning even though I watered them the day before. And it's 1-2 in a 3x3 patch so it's almost impossible I missed them. I also have a scarecrow next to it.

Anyone has any idea?

Season?

I think it's part of that weird bug like thing. It's like, even if you water them, some grow at different times and others look funky

What crop is it? Did the season change while it wasn't fully grown yet? Did any natural disasters happen?

If it was from a wild seed pack.. One of the plants just looks withered, but its not.. If not .. I don't know.

Oh. I think I had that too. It's just it's Sprite I think. It was like brown for me but I believe it grew into something

I think it was the horse radish.

Thanks for all the replies.

No it wasn't a season change, didn't think to specify it. It could have been wild seeds since I did plant a bunch of those but can the seeds give you something from the wrong season?

So far I'm only halfway through my first summer so maybe I'll notice something later or I'll get better and understand what happened :)

Wild seeds basicly grow one of the four items that spawn that season randomly.. The horseradish just has a brown sprite for some reason .. I think every season has that brown sprite though as one of the 4 possiblities for that seed pack.

There is a wild seed pack for each season, they don't spawn stuff from the wrong season.. I think all wilted crops look the same though so once you know what it looks like it'll be easier to spot..

Some of the "miscellaneous seed" plants do look a bit brown and withered even though they are growing.

I don't remember exactly what it is, but one of the "Spring Seeds" you get from the first bundle of the Community Center definitely looks like a half-buried, upside down Thanksgiving turkey. The first time I saw it, I thought it was dead as well, but a few days later it spat out some crops. (I don't remember precisely which one.)

Allright that must be it then, I'll try to pay more attention and "salvage" the seemingly withered crop :)

It's not just wild seeds. It's been happening with my regular crops as well. Scarecrows galore and watered religiously yet some tend to die on me.

That's because of the latest update that has thunder storms that the lightning will target trees / crops more often. Now, that lightning rods can help you mitigate the damage as long as they aren't currently producing a battery and you'll want to get a decent chunk of them out there: http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Lightning_Rod

Thank you. I know what I'm doing during my winter downtime. It doesn't matter where I put them? Or do I have to arrange them near my crops?

Doesn't really matter where you place them since the range is global and it doesn't protect a specific area.
