How to use "Gate"?

I think I'm missing something here... I built a fence the i built one unit of a gate... it doesn't look much like a gate to me and when I try to cross it, nothing happens...

How is gate supposed to work?

aaa... but do I need "2 units" of gate to make it work or just one?

I'm playing on my x360 pad, and I've tried every button near the gate and nothing happens...

I guess I'll try with the mouse, thanks!

Hey, it should be one unit. I had a broken gate btw yesterday.
I built it and no matter what it wouldn't open. Try placing it on another angle (like, my gate would NEVER face upward, it only worked when I put it to the left).

I put it at the top in the middle with a space on each side and then it made the gate link to the wood after the space. i'll try to grab a screenshot

So can someone clearly explain this? I'm trying to place gates and I'm trying all kinds of angles.... nothing. Do I place only ONE gate or do I need two? Fence first or gate first?



EDIT: I figured it out. Fence on either side first then place ONE gate in the middle of them.

oh? i used a sword to walkj through because i thought it was broken

The gate only works if it is in between two fixed fences

I don't know the combo controls to open the gates, but I managed and accidentally opened the Gate Of Opening the first gate while in the mines. Wrecked all the monsters since my body could use 100% of it's physical power
