This game makes me sad.
I've been a huge fan of Harvest moon, rune factory, and Animal crossing since the beginning.

I wanted to download this game, but I have to be super picky about the games I play.

Talking ot a friend of mine who owns the game, he tried a few things for me before I made the choice to buy it.

Unfortunantly I can't purchase the game because there is no way to change the in game resolution. I play most games at 600x800. I have a large screen monitor 24 inches I believe so my default resolution is something a lot different.

I wish more game devs would allow res changes. Someone like me I can't play the games with them at 1300xwhatever it is.

Just a note to the devs though. The game looks amazing, and watching it on Youtube makes me want to play it a LOT so kudos on a good game. ;)

Because not everyone is blessed with 20/10 eyesight and can play at 1900x1080. Playing on a large monitor with low resolution to make things larger and easier to see isn't as absurd as most people think.
Yeah, it's unfortunate if that's the case, but that's like saying "Man, I've always wanted to be a professional arm wrestler, but I was born without arms, so therefore professional arm wrestling should be changed to accomodate my situation". That's a bit of an unrealistic expectation. Also, if you have bad vision, wouldn't playing a game at a low resolution actually be worse on a large monitor? You're looky at a blurry video game made even blurrier by stretching the image.

Not quite the same.

Video games can be enjoyed by many different people. It's why changes CAN be made to the games. If the Devs CAN'T put the res changes in, then that's fine. I don't play the game if it's needed for myself. While there ARE devs who do this. I have to be picky about the games I play for this reason. Hell I'd love to play games like Call of duty, and first person shooters, but I can't. I know things like that can't be changed, nor should they because it would just make the game unplayable for everyone else, but look at a game like SinCity, for all it's flaws, they have put things in to aid other people with color issues, and eye problems to allow them to play the game too. Why is that a bad thing?

People like myself aren't asking for the game industry to change everything about a game for us, who are a small margin of game players, but we do enjoy having the benefit of devs working with people like me, so we can enjoy the games as well.

why would you play at such a low resolution...

Dude, I have 20/400 in my right eye and nothing in my left (retinopathy of prematurity) and I can play on a 21-inch 1920x1080. I have to blow up the font sizes and downscale most games to 1280x720 but it's not that difficult.

edit: Paradox strategy games are the bane of my existence as a strategy game fan. I ask them every time I can to add font scaling and they don't... so I simply opine and refuse to buy their games. I'm sure they're good but I can't play them so... I guess they lost a sale.

Sorry this game falls in that category for you, OP.

Everything in the game uses "large pixels", approximately 4x4 I think on 1080p. The only reason it runs at the higher res is to make all the motion and rotation smoother etc.

In effect, the game pretty well is running at a resolution similar to 800x600, so if the only reason you use low res is for your eyesight, you should be absolutely fine - there is no small text or anything anywhere in the game.

That's good to know, I've been watching on Youtube, so the one thing I'm concerned about is the info box in the upper right corner with the time, and stamina, also this game much like Don't starve have the small boxes at the bottom. How are they with the game/

I was able to change the res on Don't starve to see the boxes WAY better, it's not perfect for me, but that's not what I'm not after. It's playable which is all I can really ask for.
RKade83 2016 年 2 月 28 日 下午 3:09
What's your eyesight, OP? What've you got?

Also, the game has options for windowed, borderless, and full screen which should allow for different resolutions. As a low vision guy I can confirm the text is flippin' huge. As for the buttons, memorization is key if they're too small for you. Routine and memorization is nothing new for you though since you've had eye problems your whole life.

The info box is pretty big, should be easy to read - the only bit I can see that's small is the little numbers over the quick select bar, but they just map to "1234567890-=" accross the top row anyway so you don't really NEED to be able to see those to know which is which.
RKade83 2016 年 2 月 28 日 下午 3:14
Just checked. On my 16:9 screen, fullscreen resolution goes down to 1280x720 and it makes everything huge. If you can't read that, you've got some baaad eyesight. I can snap a screenshot if you'd like.

You're being intentionally dense to dismiss her request.

This isn't a competition. it's a product. And she is a potential customer. She has every right to ask for accomedation for a product that she might end up buying if she is accomidated.

Her money is worth just as much as yours. And she's allowed to ask for mods or fixes, just like you are.

Try setting your computer's resolution down and then launching the game. If it things the resolution is 800x600, the game will stick to 800x600. Smaller resolutions do make the game a bit more challenging (when foraging you can't see as far so you miss more), but it should work.

Wait....why not just wear glasses?

Eye conditions are many and sundry as eyes are incredibly complex things. I can't wear glasses for my condition. Some of us are stuck with what we've got. All we can do is adapt and overcome... or be sad about things we can't do.

This game is very VH-accessible though.

Glasses can't fix certain eye problems.

Look at a bunch of screen shots in full-screen mode. Whatever they look like in full-screen is most likely what they game would look like running on your computer.

Secondly, you can return games on Steam for a full refund. Buy it. Try it. Fiddle with the settings. If you can't get it looking sufficient to your eyes, then simply file for a return as long as you're under 2 hours of playing time.

If your experience with the game is through youtube videos, I would warmly suggest leveraging Steam's refund option by buying it, and refunding if the "big pixels" aren't quite big enough for you. Or, possibly, you could look at screenshots of the game in your resolution, blow them up to full screen, and see whether the UI and text looks readable.
