Ok, what's the catch with animals? How do I profit?
It started fine, but all the fodder I had disappeared after the first season with only 4 chickens and 2 cows.
Now I have to buy each fodder at the store for 50g, or a grass seed for 100g, which barely lasts anytime.

Each egg sells for 25/50 or 100 g for mayonaise.
Each milk sells for 85~or 100g for cheese.

How are you supposed to profit from this, it's barely 50g profit for each animal, not to mention all the money you invested on the barn/cooper and the animals themselves.

Am I missing some step?

a lot of people have been saying plant grass, it grows really slow though so IDK

In Harvest Moon you could incubate an egg. Idk if that's the step that is missing.

No, really.
How do I make money with animals?
JigglyRitz Feb 28, 2016 @ 10:25am
im making a bit of money from my chickens (i have 4) by making mayonaise. They usually produce at least 2 eggs per day (eggs are worth 25g each), and they sometimes produce large eggs (worth 50g i think). When you make mayo, it increases the value to 100g -150g each (150g if you make mayo from a large egg).

So, thats a profit of at least 200g per day. Just make sure to leave the chicken coop door open so they can eat the grass around your farm.

That's exactly what I stated, it's not really profit when you invest so much to get so little profit, it barely pays the cost of the coop + animals, you can get much better money by simply fishing.

If it's anything like Harvest Moon, animals give better quality goods as they like you more. They're a long term investment.

Try to refine them to mayonnaise or omeletts?

I thought I read that somebody tried selling mayo and didn't get anything for it... shrug?

As for the topic, grass is a tough one and needed in quantity. I thought I read that is spread but haven't planted any yet to test it out. Worst case, at 100 a piece, can still make a considerable field.

Store fodder is kind of an emergency measure for getting through winter if you didn't stockpile enough.

It does spread, but it takes a long time, the animals eat it MUCH faster than it can spread.

Did you even read the post?
Even being refined, the profit is still minimal.

Yes, but it pays off over time. Takes forever, but its a good little side money maker.

Basically it doesn't get that profitable until you get the bigger coop with the incubator to hatch your own chickens then sell the chickens themselves. I think grown up chickens go for over 1000g a piece

Yes, the story progresses. (It asks you to buy a Coop, not a barn -- chickens).

Well, it says coop or barn, but is that a side quest we agreed to or main story line? hmm
When I finally built a coop, it didn't give me any other quests that I recall. :brownchicken:

So far I've only got chickens, but they don't seem to consume any fodder if I let them outside during the day. I've had fodder sitting in the feed bins for days now that hasn't been touched.

They eat the grass in the field.
If you make a fence and grow some grass inside, you will see that they eat the grass REALLY FAST, but if you don't make a fence they might stray around the farm and get stuck in a rainy day, unable to go back, then stress will rise a lot.

I assume that can happen because sometimes the dog will get stuck and unable to go back to the house on rainy days.
