Fishing Advice for people struggling
I've seen a lot of people complaining about the fishing mini game so I thought I would offer up some tips since I haven't been having any trouble with it.

First the basics

Never button mash. Just mashing the button in my experience is never effective and honestly doesn't even seem to make the bar move that much.

Instead alternate between holding and pressing.

If the fish gets far away from your bar hold the button to catch up to it, and then when you are on it press the button in short timed bursts to balance the fish towards the center.

Don't panic if the fish gets out of your bar, with some of the tougher fish that is just going to happen. Just focus on targeting it enough (even if you don't hold the target) to keep the bar on the right side from running out.

As long as your bar isn't empty you can continue indefinitely. There is no penalty for being slow at catching a fish or reward for doing it quickly beyond the time it takes so focus first on making sure you don't run out of energy and use moments of calm to focus on going for the catch.

Beyond that a lot of it comes down to reaction and practice. Get a feel for a general rhythm to press and release to maintain the bar staying steady and gradually speed up or slow the rhythm from that basic pace to adjust to the fish moving up or down.

Last of all, you can increase the ease of your fishing further by gaining better rods, lures, or leveling up in your fishing skill.

Thanks. I hope people find it helpful.

TC is right, this method works the best. I tried clicking at first but it makes too little impact on the bar to be worth the effort. Timing your mouse clicks works the best. It's not too hard unless the fish goes crazy.

I honestly cannot fathom how anyone that could enjoy this game at all can have an issue figuring out how to fish.

Add to tips :

Fast click help to kill the falling momentum of the green bar, making it easier to catch a fish who dive very quick without bouncing on the bottom.

Oooh I'm so hardcore, I understand all the games mechanics and must ridicule those who don't! *rolls eyes*

That said thanks for the tips I will give fishing another go. :) I've heard there is bait too?

Yes though I don't know a lot about it. I haven't had any immeadiate need for bait yet and there's other stuff that I'm trying to save for so I just haven't messed with it. I believe it increases the speed at which you get bites on the line and likely attracts certain kinds of fish, don't quote me on that though.

I'm not hardcore.

I don't understand the problem people have with fishing. It's fairly easy. Great guide though.

I don't find it hard, but I also don't find it fun.

I've still yet to catch more than the first fish (which I'm sure is all but a given). I can keep the box fairly steady, but then the fish moves out of it and before I can get it back it in and get it steady again the meter plummets and I loose the fish. I'm about to just give up on fishing altogether and just stick to farming and mining.

Fishing took me few attempts to get use to but I'm level 9 now so that shows I've practiced and got use to doing it many times. But I wonder.. if people here are struggling on normal fish then I'm not even sure what Legendary fish will do to you lot lol.

Just in case anyone here does, don't fish at the beach. I've found that the pond/lake next the the Mines is easy and also the stream inside the town next to the blacksmith. Much easier to practice in those locations.
