If you go down into the mines frequently, you can make enough materials for more than 2 sprinklers each day, and that quickly adds up after a while.
~750g if you buy the mats isn't that much, considering that those sprinklers will take a lot of work off your shoulders in the long run. Not just measuring the saved time, but also the energy that you would spend watering your crops every day.
It will waste a bit around the edges, but aside from that you get 80% crop coverage for whatever size area you decide to plant in.
And, they don't 'decay' or need any kind of upkeep, as far as I have seen.
Looking at it another way, any item that saves time, which is the real 'currency' of this game, is a worthy investment.
Or, you can just unlock the better sprinklers (Later on, if you haven't yet). Either way, sprinklers are good for automating watering crops and saving energy for the rest of the day.
there're pics explaining the range of each sprinkler
For me there is only 2 cons in this game watering and fishing.
Iron isn't terrible to procure if you only need a couple bars, as you can buy the ore from Clint for 100g/each (500g for an iron bar) Gold is a bit tougher at 300g/each (so a bar is 1500g)
It can take a while to dive down 40 levels, especially given how really rare rain is (I've had only one rainfall in two months so far). That's usually when you start to see iron nodes.
Think of it like this:
The first sprinkler waters 4 tiles for you, even if it is in a wonky pattern.
100 tiles worth of hand wattering is anywhere from 50%-100% of your energy per day. Plus the first 2-3 hours of each day.
4 tiles of something that only has to be planted once, like peppers, will net you 8 spawns of peppers per tile ( 5 days for first plant, then a new pepper every 3 days ) per month/season.
8 peppers at 40g a piece = 320g x 4 tiles = 1280g per 4 tile sprinkler setup for tier 1 sprinklers.
Buying the mats for a tier 1 sprinkler from blacksmith = 5 copper ore, 5 iron ore and 2 coal.
5 x 50g = 250g 5 x 100 = 500g 2 x 100 = 200g 250g + 500g + 200g = 950g
950g + 4 packets of pepper seeds at 40g a piece = 1100g
That's 170g profit per set for the first time you buy the sprinkler, for Peppers. Other crops could increase this profit margin + farming your own copper / coal ( which is super easy the first month ) will save you close to half the cost to startup.
By the next month / season, you'll be enitrely profiting from this setup..and spending 0 energy and time doing it after the first initial planting of seeds. This holds true for the higher tiers of spinklers ...to astounding rates.
