How to Remove tilled dirt?

Say i want to put a path down or something similar, how do i remove the tilled(hoe'd) dirt?

Pickaxe it.

don't plant anything in it and in a few days (sunny days not rainy) they will dry up. not sure howlong it will take some I have had have dried up in a few days and some took like a week or two. Just dont plant anything on the soil and eventually it will go away.
