WTF is that sound when it rains?
From the loud, creepy groans to the inhuman howling, I'm not convinced that my house in the game isn't on some kind of native burial ground...

We are all missing the real point here, the thing is: Will this thread ever die?
I've never seen a thread active for so long in my life, we've had many necros in many forums but never one that simply didn't die like this.

I don't think it should die, I was just pointing out to the curious and funny fact that this discussion about the weird sound is going for so long.
Was just breaking the ice really, sorry if it sounded like I was complaining or something like that.

I only really heard the odd noises when the next day is loading no matter if it's raining or not. They stopped when I reached winter and hasn't started again when I reached spring year 2

They are frogs :) you can see them sometimes.
Everyone says this, but no. It's one of those cases where someone got an idea in their head early on, spread it out on the Internet, it took hold, and falsely became common wisdom. It's not true, though. The fact of the matter is, there's lots of different sounds you hear while on a rainy day in Stardew Valley, and only one of those sounds is attributable to frogs.

There *ARE* frog sounds in the mountains when it rains, but what the original poster is talking about is the truly demonic, ghoulish HOWLING thtat takes elsewhere on the world map (which, frankly, is still a complete mystery). They're very different sounds. It sounds like a banshee out of hell.

There's a discernible ribbity-croak that's identifiable as something frog-sounding near the mine when it rains. There's also something otheworldly down near the Wizard's tower, or on your own farm, when it rains.

They are DIFFERENT sounds. Stop spreading this misinformation. It's confusing people.
I'm just glad that it's part of the game. I thought my game was haunted or somethin.

I am.... utterly astonished at the sheer amount of frog discussion that went on here. In 5 months and over 100 posts, how could there be only ONE post that has the right answer?

People: please talk to the townsfolk and actually read the things they say. You can learn a lot.

I still can't find a definitive "YES THIS IS WHAT THAT DEMON SKY WHALE SOUND IS"...

from what I can try to make sense of, people say the monster in the sewer (you get the cut scene early on in the game but can't go in there until you've donated 60 items) makes the same ghoulish whale noise, SO since it also says on the stardew valley wiki that he can't come out into the sun, MAYBE THATS WHY we always hear that noise when it rains??

I just want to know at this point, whether it creeps me the fahk out or not

I prefer to think "Use your imagination". Also this thread just got super necro'd. Whenever it rains, I like to think some legendary beast somewhere far away is crying or something and the rain is what "wakes" it up. I am probably wrong but I don't mind. it's the way >I< see it.

During the cutscene with Jas and Vincent exploring the sewers you hear that sound. So I figured it was Krobus. You can hear the same (or similar) sounds in the deep mines... I don't know for sure, but I always assumed it was the shadow people. Like, either they come out during the rain, since there's no sun, or it just echoes down from the mountains...

This thread shows that no many people grow up in rainforest to hear the frog singing when it rain.

Trust me, those sound that u guys described as banshee screaming out of hell is actually how tropical frog singing. It was my childhood lullabies.

Try google or maybe youtube it, it will be helped a lot. Or maybe considering do some actual forest-vacation once in a while.

This game is actually make me miss my countryside life.
Arvis_Jaggamar Sep 1, 2016 @ 6:23am
Guys.... Marnie tells you what those sounds are. It's not Krobus. It's not frogs. It is, definitively, canonically, the Wizard.
