flower dance?

How do you ask someone to go with you? I got the letter from Lewis about where it is and saying I can ask someone to go with me but there doesn't appear to be any option to ask.

You ask them at the dance. If you haven't built the relationship enough, they'll decline. All eligible dance partners have (single) after their name in the relationship panel. And I think they're all straight, so if you're playing as a guy, you can only ask girls.

In that case I doubt I will get the girl at the dance since ingame it is only a week and a bit away for the first year.

That's odd, I just went through the south exit of my farm, after the dance started (shortly after 9am) and it automatically sent met to the area. Not sure why you missed it :( if you haven't saved yet, restart? Although since it's your first year, you can't dance with anyone, you're not really missing much.
