Also if you went Forester route at Foraging skill, you can pick Lumberjack at level 10 which enables you to get hardwood from any tree.
I've also reached the bottom of the mines and am getting pretty tired of venturing in with the hope of getting a piece of hardwood (and that's if I'm lucky).
Normally I hate spoilers with a passion but is there a late game crafting option to convert regular wood to hardwood? Normally I wouldn't I'd rather find out on my own but I want to fully upgrade my house before I upgrade my different barn etc options as I'm not sure if the change in size will infringe on other aspects of my farm ie barn, silo, orchard, and coop.
Any replies are appreciated.
They mean left of the ♥♥♥♥♥ traveling merchant. There's a large log. The kind that can only be chopped with a gold axe. It opens up a small area with 6 respawning large stumps that gives 12 hardwood a day. It's not on your farm. It's south west of your farm (and north of the wizard's tower). There are also a few slimes in the area, and often some forageables.
edit: entrance to the secret forest (where my character is about to go). There use to be a log blocking this path but I've since chopped it down:

That's impressive...
