About the "star" beside the crops?

can someone explain why do i have a star beside my parsnip?

Sometimes you get "exceptional" crops / fish / etc. They'll display as a gold or silver star. They pretty much just sell better than their normal counterparts.

Also I think there is some collection in the community center that requires all exceptional items?

They also give more stats when you eat them, I'm still debating whether or not to sell the good quality and keep the bad for eating or vice versa.

They may also provide additional 'friendship points' when used as gifts, although since it's hidden, it's difficult to confirm.
