Second, I'm using a controller and fishing is still hard af, so much effort for a single sardine lmao.
A little advice that got me better at fishing:
Don't spam click, the bar moves by holding down left mouse. It operates the same as minigames we have seen before, and, once I understood that I wasnt suppose to spam left mouse button to get the thing to move, it got infinitely easier (i havnt lost a fish yet, since that point).
Treasure chests arnt always worth it. I'd say that 1 in 5 gives something of use, so if you arnt sure if you can get the chest and fish, just go with the gauranteed money.
and finally, it isnt a race. The fishing minigame will last as long as the bar does not hit the bottom, so if a fish is being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and keeps moving, just try to keep the bar as high as possible until the fishes movement evens out. I've caught many fish by letting it spike up then settle back into a position.
I tried it this morning with a trackpad as well, just to see what could potentially effect your issue specifically. Thank god for the better half's laptop. If its a touch trackpad (i.e, no mousebutton), tap and hold works just fine. If its a macbook, or has a dedicated mouse button near or on the track pad, press and hold, and of course, release as needed. I didnt find it overly hard (though it was a little challenging using the touchpad).
Hope this helps, and good luck farmer!
Which button on the controller is for reeling the fish in?
For an XBox controller, the default is X to reel in, and A to simulate the left click during the minigame.
Fishing seemed impossible the first few days I tried it, but then it suddenly just started to click! Especially once you go up in fishing level. Some fish seem to be really annoying, and then you'll get some that barely move. Selei's post is very true, too!
Fishing isn't all that difficult with a mouse, for what it's worth. I enjoy it.
Only problem I had was understanding that the fish needed to stay INSIDE the green area, not in front of!above it.
