Also I think you can only give two gifts a week (indicated by the icons next to their name in the menu). So you can't just overload them with gifts.

Correct, 2 max a week per person. Week starts on Sunday. :)

fall i grew a ton of pumpkins and used those(loved item) i also mine alot so have amethyst to give(another loved item)

If you don't know what a particular person in town likes, you can always try giving them some food item you cooked/prepared yourself. That seems to go over well most of the time. If you give Linus enough gifts early in the game and establish a low level friendship with him, he will share the recipe for sashimi with you, which is easy because the only ingredient you need is a single fish. Pretty much everyone in town considers it an extremely good gift, with the exception of two people who hate it. I just go around handing out sashimi like the fish fairy.
