really thank you
I found this issue occurred only after I updated my graphics card from a 560 TI to the GTX 1080. I thought it was remnants of an old display driver (since Duet and iDisplay were both on my PC back when I had the 560 TI). Perhaps there's something about the newer generations of NVIDIA cards that interact with Duet display?
Anyway, it wasn't even Stardew Valley that originally gave me a problem. I just downloaded Kynseed tonight and it kept telling me that it was "preparing to launch" and then it would just stop. Next, I tested Stardew valley - it gave me the error that everyone is discussing here. Then I tried DOOM - that game worked. I tried Amnesia - that game worked. I realized it must be something related to games like SDV, Kynseed - so I tried to open Terreria and the same issue occurred (even got the error). I did try this fix: (https://steamcommunity.com/app/296470/discussions/0/34093781740855384/?ctp=2) but I had no luck with it until TOTALLY UNINSTALLING Duet Display.
Thank you to Ennalia - holy crap, I was literally minutes away from nuking my computer and reinstalling everything from scratch!
I'm working on trying to get this game to run on my computer, I've followed multiple threads and feel like I've tried everything that has been mentioned. The only fix I feel like I've found and haven't tried is running the _CommonRedist dotNet and XNA files, I don't seem to have the _CommonResdist folder mentioned here. Does anyone know if this is could be the problem and how to fix it? I have seen individuals with my same computer and specs who have solved the problem, but my computer does not seem to be working with those fixes.
Not only did this make Stardew Valley run on my PC, but in general increased my performance in games.
This is really easy to do on a Dell laptop - just google drivers for your specific model and the Dell SupportAssistant app will install all the drivers for you.
If you're not on a Dell machine just update your drivers, it really helps.
try this: Use REGEDIT (Windows key+ R and the regedit into the textfield) and change the "SoftwareOnly" key from "1" to "0" in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers
and then reboot the system and it should work.
this worked for me at least.
AssemblyVersion : 1.3.7346.34283

So I used the Everest software to find out which model my processor was (Intel i3), I installed the right driver and the game started correctly.
After trying everything i almost lost hope but it helped me aswell thanks a lot .
This actually worked for me like a charm, thx so much.
