I get this error message when I try and start the game. I've searched online for about an hour looking for solutions, but could not find anything that worked. Am I simply out of luck? I don't know much about the technical side of computers so any help would be much appreciated.

If you have another computer with steam on it, then you can try streaming from it. That fixed the problem for me.

This is very frustrating. I played this game for 92 hours with NO PROBLEMS back in March. I have a SurfaceBook with integrated graphics, both cards up to date, and even tried using the NVidia control panel to force it to use only the NVidia for this game. Nothing is working. I'm getting the same error message as the rest.

Seems really ominous that the last reply is from May, and that from someone who couldn't get it to work. Is there just no solution for this? What the heck's going on?

this problem came when I play with different pc... all you need to do is make sure everything have been installed correctly... and its very important to have WINDOWS UPDATE to the most recent one... I googled everywhere and all failed... then I realize my windows update is not the most recent one so I updated and this problem solved!!! My graphic card is not that good but it worked perfecty using HP 2008 core to duo

Hello there, if any of you guys are still having trouble, you should try this. I made this to my girlfriend's PC and worked. First you download this file
http://downloads.ziddu.com/download/24312700/Swiftshader-3.0-.rar.html
Then extract and paste in this folder
C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/assembly/GAC_32/Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics/v4.0_4.0.0.0__842cf8be1de50553

It worked for me, Bye!

If that doesn't work, this is kind of a blind shot, but go into your game installation directory (right-click game name > properties > local files > browse), open the _CommonRedist folder, and if you keep digging, there should be two separate programs you can run; they should have "dotNet" and "XNA" in the file names. Install those, restart your PC, and see if it helps.
THAT WORKED! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :Hand_Shake:
