For anyone concerned about the publisher
I know there is a large chunk of people who after Chucklefish's own game are rather wary of the company, and would go as far as to not buy the game because of them whether they are interested in it or not.

As a fan of Harvest Moon games I am looking forward to this release after not playing one for a while, and so in order to perhaps dampen any concerns I wanted to say why Chucklefish is not an issue. Starting with the fact that Risk of Rain was also published by them and it was a great game. Released not too long before Starbound too. Secondly, the developer has already stated before when addressing these concerns that Chucklefish played no hand in developing the game, and the revenue they receive will be very little. (Source: http://i.imgur.com/1wvYhUK.png)

To put it into perspective, say the revenue obtained is like, 5% for Chucklefish. That would mean you'd be giving 14.25 to the developer and 75 cents to Chucklefish. Given the fact that Chucklefish has already made a lot of money, they're not going to care whether they get that 75 cents or not. The developer, however, is helped a lot by 14.25, and whatever money Chucklefish will pay him for sales with the publishing deal. And given the fact that the developer was devoted enough to build everything from scratch for four years and respond with the community, I don't see why he shouldn't get that money.

That's my question.
I'm guessing it has something to do with Starbound, though I haven't heard anything bad about Starbound or Chucklefish. Nothing bad enough to warrant this kind of response.

Nothing is wrong with Chucklefish.

It's the outlash of people who are impatient and expected more right away with Starbound.

Chucklefish is great, and I've been following the development of this game for years. There is no way the dev behind it would release it if it wasn't worth our purchase.

That's what I thought. I followed Starbound since they announced it, and saw nothing worthy of such a reputation as the one mentioned in the OP. They seem like great people, much better than most devs that get through Greenlight with their garbage games.

Yeah, people really need to understand the differences between Publishers and Developers. Can't wait for Starbound!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Chucklefish and there was nothing wrong with Starbound. Anyone that complained about Starbound's slow updates had unrealistic expectations for how fast a game can be updated.

Don't worry dude, we can just blame it on how they have practically false advertised to get quick cash and then bail on the product! CAPITALISM!

They didn't bail, they have a dev blog they update almost nightly. And speaking of nightly, they have a version where you get nightly updates of what they have been working on that day. So yeah...no bail here, sorry m8

I was being sarcastic, but nice retort nontheless.

+1

I think humble bundle takes less, so buying from there would net the dev more money from your purchase.

This is actually a thing? People will complain about anything I guess.

Starbound went several long months without any meaningful updates after it released. For a while there it was looking like the game was dead, abandoned or close to it. Chucklefish took a bit of a reputation hit from it. This wasn't long after (or maybe around the same time) as the Spacebase DF9 disaster, so people were pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fed up with developers around that time and didn't cut them much slack.

Chucklefish isn't Double Fine however, thank god. But as for this game, they simply published it. As far as I know they didn't have anything to do with the actual development.
