To put it bluntly, for four years of work there's no logical excuse for them to look so similar.
4 years of work yes, but one guy did literally everything. Design, Art, Sound, Music, Coding, ect. That is a lot of stuff to be an expert on; it would make sense that there would be a few small deficiencies (and this a very small one.)
Four years. FOUR YEARS. Literally no excuse to use the same face for multiple characters. Not to mention if you go back and look at old character desisgns, they actually looked different.
Well honestly i don't care about that, what make a real difference in look and how the character feel is more in the haircut, cloth style, and texts.
These 3 may have a similar face, but just one look let me thing that :
-Abigail is more of an independant women with strong character
-Leah is the "big sister" type i think, proper, feel mature (Could be a Milf damn).
-Penny fell more kid than the 2 others, a young adult who just came out of adolescent.
Uh, it IS a lot of work, it IS going to take years...
I kinda dislike both styles, but I prefer the newer over the older personally
I love how you're brushing aside the fact that there were old designs and they actually looked unique from each other for the sake of saying "it's a lot of work". There was nothing wrong with the old designs, save for maybe the appearance of being lower resolution. So why change everyone and give half of them almost exactly the same face instead of just increasing the graphical fidelity of the original designs? Because I guarantee you, this change in design (as low effort as it was) took more effort than simply improving the old ones would've. No, this change to samefaces was done on purpose, for whatever reason I do not know.
For clarity, I like the game. I like what it offers. I plan on buying it release day and sinking hundreds of hours into it, but I am also going to put criticism where criticism is due.
Thats why I talked about modding in the other discussion, for instance I can't enjoy see the hair mistake so I would like to have it fixed but maybe some people prefer the new look, thats where modding come in since is just a small visual change that pleases both sides. I hope the gameplay is enjoyable but when I played harvest moon I also looked who I could marry by looks and personality. I'm not hating the game and I been waiting years for it but I can't turn a blind eye in errors and only look the positive side.
Argumentum ad hominem.
And people said the SV community was shaping up to be a nice one. Since none of you can handle criticism, logical discussion, or want to see the game improve, I'll just see myself out.
Well theres criticism and "criticism". :P
That said their main point was that you probably dont have an overview of all thats involved. Which goes more of your point of "OMG FOUR YEARS, NO EXCUSE" than against the point of the faces being largely the same.
Personally I do prefer the new style. Though I'd vastly prefer an art style like river town ( http://akari.in/pinky_Bri72 )
