Chose wrong pet
So a while ago I chose a cat by accident, 100 hours later I don't feel like restarting to get a doggo. I saw a thread from a while back that showed how to change it but after the update that added different pet breeds this doesn't work. Can someone tell me the things that need changing in the files to turn my cat into a dog?

First up, the wiki for savefile location, & basic tips if you're new to this: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Saves#Edit_a_save

After making a backup; just open the appropriate save and start searching for the following lines.

First one:
<catPerson>true</catPerson>

Needs to be set to 'false' for dogs.

Next up:
<NPC xsi:type="Cat"> <name>pet_name_here</name>

This is your pet's data section.
NPC type needs to switch to "Dog", and you can change your pet's name here if desired.

Lastly, a few lines down, but still inside your pet's NPC data section:
<whichBreed>0</whichBreed>

0 is the default, original breed. 1 & 2 are the new breeds respectively.
The wiki has a good image of the choices if you need a reminder:

When done; just save, and you'll be good to go.

You can, but not the species iirc. You can only make the cat look different.

Just my personal opinion, but you might end up regretting that. I find the dog is much more annoying... it's noisier, and it runs around faster which makes it get in your way much more often. So don't be too surprised if you decide to go back to having a cat. :3

SDV has been seeing a lot of necromancers lately, is this going to be in the update?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
