Wed. 17
Totally lost to the mists of time. I have no idea what I did this day. This was when my brain was still mush, before I took a break.

Thur. 18

Found an ancient seed last night. Halfway through the summer… I guess I should plant it. I could get two or three harvests from it, which I can then put through the seed maker.

I finally figured out that my iron axe is done, and has been done for days. I picked it up from Clint and slunk home.

Spring spoiled me with all its rain. It has only rained once this summer. I'm going to have to start watering the extra fields I planted, to be sure they ripen before fall. Wouldn't want to waste all that summer wild seed.

This challenge is getting too heavy for me. I've got to let something go or I won't be able to finish. I've played through the past several days and have made little to no progress, and have replayed the day I'm on about five times trying to get it to work. I'm throwing in the towel.

I can't handle the requirement to farm only after 5pm, while also having to be in bed by midnight. I should have planned my farm differently and not planted so much, but I can't change that now. Maybe I can try harder to get it right next season. But for the rest of this season, I want to drop both of those as hard rules. I'll try to do them if I can, but if I can't I'm just going to break them as needed and mention it here. This especially applies if it's going to rain again, because I really need to upgrade my watering can.

I'm not willing to redo this whole playthrough from scratch just because I arbitrarily have restricted my farming time too much. I'm just going to loosen my belt a bit and get past it.

Are you allowed to use the Greenhouse in this play-through? I always save the Ancient Seeds for that and start them in there.

Yeah, I've had to do that too sometimes. I think I went in shifts, Watering part of a field each day. Of course, you've got that "only farm in the evening" limitation too ...

No idea how I'd deal with that. I always see the Farm and/or Animal chores as concrete, and I always do them first. Going out and doing other stuff during the day, and then returning home to farm would leave me feeling nervous all day. Would I time it correctly? Would there be enough time to do everything I needed to get done?

I know the point is to get you to think about the game differently, but that condition would weigh on my mind.

And! Then I read this post.

Yeah ... I can understand that. Like I said, that limitation seemed pretty heavy to me.

Thanks for understanding, Nakos.

I think going to bed early is a condition that makes sense as a challenge. I think I could keep doing that one. I like the built in conditions and penalties it has. But not doing any farm work in the morning feels like just "difficult for the sake of being difficult" as opposed to having a legitimate reason behind it, or even a logical penalty for breaking it.

I like rules with penalties, because then I can choose to break them and pay the penalty without feeling like a failure. If i decide that staying out late is worth the energy penalty, then that's my rational choice, and I deserve to make it. But if I decide that my farm work load requires me to start early, what can I do about that other than give up?

So I'm giving up the rule. It wasn't fun, and didn't add anything significant to my game or perspective. It was just in the way.

Fri. 19 Demetrius' Birthday
Gave him a gold strawberry.
Too many fields to water. Feeling unhappy about it as a rule in general.

---------------
Sat. 20 Rain (for the second time this month)
Feeling really sad that I didn't know this was coming, and couldn't take advantage of the chance to upgrade watering can.
Officially gave up the "only farm at night" rule.

Worst luck day. Time to chop wood again.

----------------
Sun. 21
Made some tea saplings, and sold them and some cheese and mayo at Pierre's. Went by the Blacksmith's to buy gold ore, to make sprinklers. Bought three goats from Marnie - Parmesan, Romano, and Chevre. The travelling cart had a peach, a coconut, and a rare seed for me.

Back at home I tended the animals, watered the crops, and began smelting the gold.
Snowy Sprout Nov 26, 2023 @ 2:29am
Tues. 23

Last crop of wild seeds matured, so made more tea saplings.
Good luck day, so went to the mines. Bought a Claymore from the Guild to save a few swings when fighting. Mined up some iron and got to floor 65.
Crafted and placed three sprinklers, but accidently killed one tomato plant in the process.
Reached Farming level 9 overnight, and level 8 Forage.
Repaired Minecarts!

Wed. 24

Did morning farming, which felt good. Placed three more sprinklers.
Brought lots of cheese, mayo, etc. to sell to Pierre. Forgot he is closed on Wednesdays.
Brought omni geodes for Clint to crack, and got some stuff for Museum.
It's a bad luck day, so I went to the beach to chop all the trees I planted there.
Forgot Willy's birthday.

What do we think? Should buying seeds at Joja count as a different type of seed than buying them at Pierres? Pierre does make a big deal about his seeds being superior, so presumably they aren't the same brand.

I'm just really sad not to be able to buy more of certain seeds, like wheat.

Pretty sure pierre buys the cheapest seeds he could find to maximize profits, he might even be secretly buying them from joja for a bulk-buy price. So I think you will be fine buying them from joja.

Thu. 25

After morning farming, went straight to the mines. It's a bad luck day but I really need stone and fiber, so I farm level 20. Efficiently, I only break boulders and light gray rocks, and any ores and fiber I see. I only kill mobs that are an actual threat.
---------------------------
Fri. 26 Raining
Is it maybe the third time it has rained this month?
I didn't see the weather channel ahead of time, but it doesn't matter. I can do without watering for the rest of this month. I move three sprinklers as needed.
Goats are finally giving milk!
Bought 60 stone to have all I need to order a Deluxe Barn, which should be done by the first of Fall. So by the 4th I should be collecting wool and able to start changing my clothes. It'll be nice to stop running around in my underwear.
Fished for red snapper and other fish needed for fish bundles.
Bought a rare seed from the Cart. I'm buying extras because I'll use a farming enhancing food before picking them, and hope for more stars.
Finally got around to opening the Secret Woods, and foraged there for the first time.

Ah, but it's not about being safe. It's about the rule to only buy 24 of each seed each season. The reason behind it is to imply there is a limited supply in stores. Also to force me to find alternative ways of making money besides having huge fields of one type of plant. I'm only allowed to have 24 of any crop planted at any one time.

It's already allowed that I buy seeds each season, even if I have bought a similar seed the season before. So I can buy summer wheat, and fall wheat. But can I buy Pierre summer wheat and Joja summer wheat?

Sat. 27

It was a good luck day, so I went to dive down the mine. Made it to floor 80, but it took me till midnight to do that, so I was late getting to bed.
Made it to level 6 Mining, and Level 4 Combat.
-------------------
Sun. 28

Last day of the month.
Also worst luck day. So after morning chores, and after catching the Junimo Plushie, I went to chop down Cindersap Forest. While chopping, I made torches to place behind all the big bushes to give the world a friendly glow.
I want to leave grown trees on my farm in Fall, so they can turn into Mushroom Trees.
Bought 5 rare seeds, but wasn't able to buy any sheep yet because the barn isn't finished. So it'll be Wednesday before I can buy sheep, and four days after that I'll get some wool.
Went to the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies, and bought some seafoam pudding and cloud decals.
I didn't count myself at fault for going to bed late tonight, because the holiday only returned me home at midnight. I had some normal nighttime chores to do, like cycling my beer and jelly machines etc. and I did that and won't avoid eating tomorrow because of it.

Mon. 1 Fall
Copper watering can is ready.
Bought seeds for cranberry, grape, eggplant, wheat, and pumpkins because that's all I had money for.
Put speed-gro under grapes to get an extra harvest. The rest got basic fertilizer.
Normally I'd put deluxe speed-gro under pumpkins to get an extra harvest, but I can only plant them once so that's that.
Other single-harvest crops I'll plant as I get cash for it, or after pumpkins are gone.
-------------------

Tue. 2 best luck day!
Basic morning chores, then picked out gifts to give to everyone on my way to pick up my watering can. Immediately turned around to upgrade it to iron, because all my everbearing plants have sprinklers, and the pumpkins have plenty of time to waste.
Gifted many people, including a poppy for Penny's birthday.
Got the quest to find ectoplasm, so went straight to the mines to farm level 51. It happens to be an infested level, but though I killed maybe six ghosts, no luck finding ectoplasm.

I'd say no. I can buy the summer/fall wheats being different versions of the same plant but not that different stores are selling different plants with the same name. But its your game.

Hmm... they are different stores, so they would have different inventories, but ... I dunno, seems like a technicality to slide around the rule.

What's the rule on Seed Makers? Can you seed things to generate more than the 24 seeds per season? That requires sacrificing about 50% of your crop (give or take), so there's a built in penalty. But it does keep with the spirit of the rule, in that you're not drawing down limited store inventories.
