Bite rate is slightly better with Wild Bait. (Fish bites the line more often, or trash. Basically the "!" will appear faster).

Also Wild Bait is prohibitively expensive to craft..
Wild bait is basically a bait for you to waste resources, SUPER expensive and not worth it. its pretty much like the vinager scam, but for fishing :D

Dont waste time/resources on it.

Well, in a way it is saving time with legendary or other elusive fish. I only get a few hours a day to try at fishing since I got mountains of animals/slimes and plants. Certain fish only appear at certain times (like 5 hours for a few rares, and only on a sunny day, the busy kind of days since you need to water those crops). Getting bites more often can help time constrained farmers hunting either legendary or rare fish. And I think that's really the purpose of this bait. This bait is like the fine china you use on a select few.

The only mats I am sacraficing are ones with almost no value. Plant fiber is worth 1g. Bug Meat is 8g a piece I believe. And thanks to worm boxes the only other use (normal bait) is given to me for free more than I'll need. Slime is 5g a piece as well. Every single ingredient is basically worth northing monetary wise. I'd never sell any of these because they are worth next to nothing. Not sure why you'd say the bait itself is super expensive. It's just not worth it to go out of your way to farm bug meat for this bait.

Plant fibers are the only resource that has practical uses. But practical can only go so far, and practical is not to be confused with monetary uses.

Sure the legendarys, but thats like 4 extra throws and you get them. its not like its days wasted.

And tyhe time invested in getting the bug meat? Are you going grinding low lvl bugs to get it? How much time are you wasting there compared to the 1-1,5 reduction sec each catch?
Regular bait+dressed spinner, insta catch. Fishing in bubbles, insta catch.

Waild bait has no uses period.

People actually use the dressed spinner? Man, I'm either always running a treasure hunter related one for artifacts or trap bobber for actually catching tough fish. But I did say it's a waste of time to farm the bug meat, probably missed that part there or misunderstood me.

All I'm saying is if you got the bugmeat from when you were an early miner, might as well make the bait and use it on legendary fish or something else that only appears a few hours a day at select times in a select season, like a pufferfish or octopus. And you only get 5-6 hours a day (puffers only like sunny days) for those guys and they sorta need a trap bobbler if you want to catch them 100% of the time thanks to their difficulty. Personally, I stockade at least a few of every fish in my chests... for collection purposes.

ofcourse nobody uses the dressed spinner since there is no rush to get the fish, hence the waild bait is also a complete waste. and like i said, you cut down, idk, 15 seconds in that 5-6 hour ingame time when you try to catch the specific fish. Since one you get one of them there is no more need since infinite and "free" loved gifts from crabpot --> sashimi.

You can also use Wild Bait to make Ice Pip and Lava Eel fishing viable means of income, as without them the rate of catching these 2 fishes in the dungeons becomes prohibitively low.

Well, the wild bait can cut down quite a bit of time. Since normal bait cuts down the delay by 50% and wild bait cuts down the delay to 62% you might think there is only a 12% difference. But the truth is the new standard delay from normal bait is 50% and the 12% actually equates 24% less delay after that.

Not only that but some people have claimed rare fish appear more often with the bait. Saving even more time.

With the wild bait, I think 3 of the 5 bites were Glacierfish. Then I ran out and had to switch back to regular bait.

He showed up way less often after that...

So it seems that wild bait specifically attracts bigger/better fish. Good to use when you're trying to catch those rarer fish.

I haven't tried it yet, but it might be useful for the mine fish, since those seem to be pretty rare, usually getting algae & trash instead of a fish.

Some people have also claimed you get better shellfish like actual crabs more often in the crab pots when using wild bait.

It seems to increase the chances that you catch anything meaningful, instead of just trash (although trash of course also has its uses with recycling machines)

Don't misunderstand me. I do agree with you that the bait is impractical. Of course it is for the current crafting mat ratios it requires. But the mats are still useless right now for the most part so might as well use them if you already have them and save some time with rare and/or legendary fish like I did. Caught my crimson in a few spare hours I had in a day with wild bait myself. Tried for half a day before with normal bait and with fishing related food and I didn't get lucky. So I think it's at least worth wasting if on nothing else at least legendaries.

The crab pots arnt used to get anything useful, as in crab/crayfish, just fish, because everything cought counts as fish. even the snails :D
its used to get free fish with minimal effort to mass produce q fertilizer and free liked gifts from all but 3 villagers (sashimi) And you dont catch trash with lvl 10 perk.

The crabs are used for crab cakes. Not as good as Spicy Eel, but still like getting it from my wife on rare occasion. Speed enhancing food is awesome. Crabs and lobsters also sell for a bit more. Admittedly, I don't place my crab pots in the ocean anymore though. I use all those periwinkles and other garbage fish on quality fertilizer myself rather than gifts. For some reason quality fertilzer also seems to make crops grow faster too I believe, like speedgrow fert. I'm having crops finish days before they are supposed too.

Edit: Nevermind, it doesn't decrease days like speedgrow. I forgot I got the perk with decreases crop grow time. Wondered what was up with 3 day garlic/parsnip/wheat for these past years I've been using quality fert.
