Does gift quality effect friendship level?

Like, if I'm giving someone an item that can have the silver or gold stars, would giving them a gold star version give more points than the standard version?

Item quality doesn't matter for gifting, so you don't need to use your high quality items on people if you don't want to.

with update it does, before that not so much....gave iridium star quality of item to someone who loved that item cnt remember who but think it got me 4 hearts at the time
