How to change Profession?

I choosed the wrong Profession by accident!

How can I change it? I didn't know that there was something like this coming up -.- I tried to change it described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/48piqs/psa_if_you_chose_the_wrong_profession_you_can/

But this doesn't work, I can't load the save file, no matter what. But I did excatly what was written there.

The save file is excatly the night where I "choose" the Profession, if that matters.

What do you mean when you say you can't load the save file, do you have Notepad++ ?

If I want to load the Save File the Game crashes.

Did you back up your save? If so just copy that one back in.. Then re-try.. You might of just deleted something like a > which could make the game unable to load..

All you need to do is change the number of the profession you want to change to the new number and nothing else..

If you didn't back up your save... then you'd have to figure out what you deleted..

It sounds like you're editing the file incorrectly. I recently changed a profession of mine through that guides methods.

Just to be clear, you're able to open the {Your name_###} file in Notepad++ and you have found the lines that refer to Professions?

Yep and I tried it 4 times with the backup file. That with accidently deleting something was my guess aswell, I have none of my Skills lvl10 yet this is the second lvl5 Skill, maybe it only works with max lvl?

Could you take a picture of your before and after edits of the professions?

Does the part your changing look like:
professions><int>1</int><int>13</int><int>18</int><int>24</int><int>6</int><int>4</int><int>16</int></professions>

Perhaps with less numbers? Maybe your changing the wrong thing?...

<professions><int>12</int><int>1</int></professions> Forester=12
Edit: after the change the game crashes if I want to load.

Assuming you have the level for it.. That should work I think..

Are you using notepad++ or at lest notepad? .. I think things like wordpad can mess up files like these sometimes when it saves (I remember some other game having this issue for me)..

I don't have any other ideas though if your using notepad already..

Ok, the Problem was entirely Different :P Remember my Backup Save? I changed the Name of this folder to Backup and I had 2 save Files in the game, turns out I assumed a wrong "order" and tried to open the wrong save file. If the File has the Wrong name the Game crashes. I removed my Backup file out of the save file and now It works, sorry for the trouble :)
