No elevators (fast travel) in skull caverns?

I made my first expedition into the caverns and due to some bad luck with finding A LOT of hostiles and taking a long time to find ladders I only made it to level 6 before midnight and I had to pack up and leave so I didn't fall asleep outside my bed and get charged for it. Anyhow, are there no fast travel options or are they every 10 levels or is it something else?

No, you start at level 1 every time in the Skull Caverns.

Skull Cavern has no such conveniences, unfortunately.

There are holes that drop you down several levels at once, but you take damage if you use them. I believe it's advised to bring bombs and foods that increase combat skill and luck so ladders and holes are found faster.

I use my stockpile of stone and create staircases tbh. It's 99 stone per staircase, so you can really only get about 10 if you have a 999 stone, buuut.. sometimes its faster, particularly in the bigger floors.
