Because I had not put fences or paths around my crops, those small boulders and logs that always appear did encroach and cost me one crop.
But it wasn't like I couldn't see what caused it.
Overgrowth can damage your farm and placeable objects if it is not contained. Fences protect your crops and objects by "breaking" the overgrowth line, preventing weeds and the like from spreading into places where they can do damage.
But ... Oh man! The weeds spawn under (and destroyed) my scarecrow and Iridium sprinkler!
(I used a 2 block thick stone path)
