Fruit Tree died
I just came across the fruittrees I planted to pick up the fruits and just saw a stump where the peach tree should be.
So this fruit trees can die? And what can I do to prevent the others from dieing?

Lightning likely. Put a lightning rod near your orchards.

Were the 8 tiles surrounding the fruit tree free (and untilled)?
(i.e. unless it was already fully grown up)

Or was it, maybe, hit by a lightning?

Lightning Rods don't protect things from lightning strikes, they aren't prioritized over other nearby objects. They're just meant for making battery packs, not protection. Things can still get hit by lightning even if a Lightning Rod is nearby.

ah there was a storm one of the days before...
the tree was fully grown but the surrounding tiles were free and untilled anyway.

so no protection from lightning?
A shame, they are so expensive!

I think as long as you have a lightning rod that's not current been hit and producing a battery somewhere on the farm then nothing will get hit. Because I have like 50 lightning rods atm and I've never lost a single tree to a lightning storm since their creation in dozens of storms, prior to it when I had zero lightning rods I lost a tree or two every single storm.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. Especially since lightning strikes seem so random. Like, I've only seen them hit random trees in the undeveloped part of my farm, while other folks have had them repeatedly hit valuable things on their farm over and over.

Lightning rods ARE prioritized over other things to be hit by lightning. If they've already been hit, however, they cant't get hit again. You need more than one per "screen" to fully protect something.

At the moment there are 4 lightning rod on my farm... but I probably craft I few more, placing them near the trees I want to protect! Thanks for the help ;)

Source?

Based on this tweet someone posted yesterday it doesn't sound like it matters where you place lightening rods since they "aren't a preventative thing".

Has CA said anything more?

It's just strange because you can see a considerable difference apon buildings lightning rods compared to not having them.

I'll just point these two links out...
I made a thread similar to this when I had 3 lightning rods near a tree yet the tree still got destroyed by lightning: http://steamcommunity.com/app/413150/discussions/0/385429254933555108/

From CA himself on the matter of lightning rods: https://twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/695190053484560384

But the question is where those 3 rods already processing hit's before the tree was hit? I can't tell from a screenshot. Also 3 rods is really nothing, on average I get about 16 rods activated per lightning storm.

The REAL question is, DID YOU EVEN READ THE THREAD? I wrote on the thread, 2 were activated, 1 was NOT activated. That's just the 3 closest (as in close enough to take a screenshot with all of them). I have a total of 15 lightning rods spread out on the farm.

Nope jsut looked at the screen shot and skimmed a bit.

My personal experience is that they do not protect things. I've got a large part of my farm covered in stone flooring, which commonly gets hit by lightning, dislodging one piece of floor. I put roughly 40 lightning rods all around the farm, never less than 5 in one spot. Still, I will see tiles that have been hit only a few tiles away from unactivated lightning rods.

It would be nice if they could protect your farm :)
