* Sebastian, being Robin's child from pre-Demetrius days, probably has a different surname than the rest of the family (further contributing to his "outsiderness").
** The exact relationship between Marnie, Jas, and Shane is unclear. Shane is Jas's godfather, not a direct blood relative, but that doesn't preclude him from being an indirect relative (like a cousin to one of her parents). Jas calls Marnie "aunt", but it's unclear if that's because Marnie is her actual aunt, or if it's just a term of familiarity. Even if Jas is Marnie's biological niece, we don't know which of Jas's parents was related to Marnie. As far as I know, it's also unknown whether or not Marnie has ever been previously married. Which all conspires to result in me giving them three different surnames.
*** "Smith" would be the obvious one, and Clint's family background would support it. But it's just too obvious.
At 10 hearts Jas called me Uncle Cornflakes, so it's very possible Aunt Marnie is also a term of endearment rather than familial. This doesn't really confirm anything, just contributes to the ambiguity.
Their names do sound very posh British name but i'm new to this game and was wonder if we are given a surname or do we need to give ourselves surname.
To clarify; The idea of first name of the Wizard being Magnus is actually from the mod Stardew Valley Expanded, so it's not cannon, just widely known fanon. Still a good choice for him I'd say.
Also, OP has probably moved onto other matters given how old this thread is, but I'll mention that Sandy has a line of dialogue revealing that 'Sandy' is not in fact her real name. It's just something she uses for her business apparently, and we never learn her real name.
The Farmer has one name field, and if you set both a personal and surname the npcs will say both together when their dialouge calls for the farmers name. So, Pierre might be programmed to say "It's farmer @!" when you enter his store, with @ being the farmers name. So, that could become "It's farmer John!", or "It's farmer Smith!", or "It's farmer John Smith!" depending on what you set it to. Basically, it doesn't matter, and everyone seems to be on a first name basis in Pelican Town so I just use a personal name for all of my characters. Minor spoiler: By befriending the wizard to 4 hearts you gain access to his basement where you can spend 500g to change your name, gender, favorite thing, and appearance, just as if you were at character creation again.
